You're probably here because you're stressed,
Anxious,
Or maybe your mind just won't stop running.
Rest assured that whatever it is that's preventing you from falling asleep and getting a good night's rest will soon be washed away.
All you need to do is settle in and let yourself relax,
And find a spot somewhere in front of you,
On the wall or the ceiling there,
Just a place that feels good to rest your gaze.
And as I count down from five to one,
Slowly allow your eyes to close,
Five,
Just beginning to feel the weight of your eyelids,
Four,
Starting to flutter closed,
Three,
Softening down,
Barely able to keep your eyes open,
And feeling them close all the way at one.
And as your eyes close all the way down,
Feel yourself sinking deeper and deeper within.
Take a slow and full inhale,
And as you exhale,
Allow your body to melt down,
Down,
All the way down into your bed.
Now,
I don't know exactly how you'll fall asleep,
Or exactly when you'll fall asleep,
But I do know that you'll fall asleep on your own time and in your own way.
And as you follow your own path towards sleep tonight,
You can just listen to the sound of my voice off in the background,
And the soft pitter patter of the rain,
As I guide you to let go of stress,
Calm any anxious thoughts,
And find that deep,
Reassuring peace within yourself.
May you be reminded that there's nothing left for you to do today,
No tasks to complete,
No problems to fix,
No answers to find.
This is your time to rest,
And you deserve it.
No matter what you did today,
No matter what happened or didn't happen,
You've earned this opportunity to settle deeper within yourself,
To let go of the outside world,
And to find that timeless calm in a peaceful night's sleep.
So feel the relaxation spreading through your face,
Your shoulders and arms,
Your chest and back,
Your hips,
Thighs,
And calves,
All the way to the tips of your toes.
And as you let go,
More and more,
Feel yourself sinking deeper and deeper into the darkness behind your eyelids,
Deeper and deeper within yourself,
Farther and farther from all of the ongoings in your daily life,
Closer and closer to sleep.
And as you make your way even deeper and deeper,
You may begin to imagine looking at yourself from a new perspective,
One that eases the mind,
And that perspective begins with picturing yourself exactly as you are right now,
Lying peacefully in your bed,
Safe and sound,
You're breathing steadily and slowly,
And you notice just how relaxed you look from this perspective.
Now imagine that view expanding so that you can see the whole room around you,
The darkness on the walls,
The stillness,
And you continue to zoom out on that view just a little bit more until you're floating above the place you call home,
Gently gazing down at it,
And maybe floating higher still,
Expanding your view to the area that surrounds your home,
Which you might call your neighborhood,
And seeing all that exists there,
Maybe there's other homes or cars,
Maybe there's buildings and streets,
Maybe it's all forests,
But whatever it is,
You're beginning to notice that the world is resting.
And so you float higher and higher,
So that the whole area you live in becomes just a tiny blur of light,
And the familiar places almost indistinguishable,
The worries and happenings of that place seeming more and more distant.
And so you float even higher now,
So that your view expands across the whole land,
Forests,
Rivers,
Mountains,
And seas,
Cities,
And countryside.
But you can still see that now tiny little light where you reside,
It's part of something much bigger.
And from this view,
You may begin to notice just how grand or just how small your stresses and problems really are.
Compared to the vastness of everything,
From your view,
You can see countries,
Millions of people,
Millions of lives,
Each with their own thoughts,
Their own worries,
Their own problems,
And their own answers.
And in some ways,
They're all different from you.
But in most ways,
They're just like you.
And there's a reassurance in that idea that you're never alone,
That your struggles are shared struggles.
And if you keep zooming out,
Rising higher,
Deeper and deeper within yourself,
You'll eventually begin to see the whole earth and entire planet floating in open space.
And from this more broad and open perspective,
What once felt overwhelming now seems so small and temporary,
Like a passing cloud in an endless sky.
And from this place of vastness,
Expansiveness,
May you feel yourself breathe a little easier in knowing that whatever stressors,
Whatever racing or anxious thoughts you may have from time to time,
They are passing.
They are momentary.
And your own existence is much larger than them.
And as you appreciate this perspective,
This distance and space from your worries and stresses,
You may find that it allows you to sink deeper and deeper.
And each time you sink deeper,
Even deeper within as your mind becomes more calm and your body softens,
You have nothing to solve tonight.
You just get the gift of this moment of relaxation,
Of quiet,
Stillness,
And pure existence.
And whenever the time comes for you to cross the border of consciousness and into the land of dreams,
May you let go and fall into the most peaceful rejuvenating and restful sleep,
