I woke up again this morning, Your arm across my chest, The regular sound of your breathing a joy to my ears. Outside, The horse call of a wood pigeon, Waking to greet another new day in its own inimitable way. In the distance, The comforting hum of traffic, A reminder of a bustling world going about its business. Should I get up to put on the kettle, No, Better to lie here a while in thankful thought, These precious days turning so swiftly to months and years. If a day should dawn when you leave this world before me, Let me recall these treasured days with gratitude.
