Not Just Another Day

The birds welcome the new day with enthusiasm. We can be less enthusiastic. We turn over for a few more minutes. But these are the days of our lives, landing into our laps without question, day after day after day. The window is open to a new day.

Outside,

Birds live in the moment.

Where did they learn to sing,

Morning has broken?

But sing they do,

Without hesitation.

Loud voices,

Small singers.

Inside,

An alarm signals the gift of another day.

Arm reaches out,

Seeking ten more minutes.

Of sleep,

Strange routine.

When minutes of the day fill the bank account of life.

Drop by drop,

Dropping in.

Drop by drop,

Falling out.

Unseen.

Unused.

Unnoticed.

And so many yesterdays,

Gone forever.
