Key 6.
Cut the noise.
The psychic researcher was equally excited as he was frustrated.
At last he had found a pair of identical twins who proved telepathy was real.
Using double-blind techniques,
He consistently got one twin to write down and draw identical words and images that the other had made.
It didn't matter if they were in separate rooms in the same building or in different buildings miles apart.
At last he had proof.
He had found two anomalies though that he couldn't explain.
The first anomaly was that the girl was equally good at transmitting and receiving messages.
The boy though only scored around 50% of hits when receiving.
This alone was phenomenal.
The girl though was over 90% accurate.
The second thing he couldn't explain is that the receiver always started writing several seconds ahead of the transmitter.
Both these meta-phenomena were to be the basis of his PhD.
This could potentially make his name known globally for his cutting-edge research.
This excitement was dampened by another phenomenon that he also had no answer for and one that could potentially undermine all his great work.
When anyone who was sceptical about telepathy visited his lab,
The twins didn't want to play ball.
What tests he did manage to get them to carry out were non-conclusive and within the realms of chance.
The lack of third-party corroboration of his results was causing his tutor to ask questions and to think about cutting his funding.
The researcher had a brainwave one day.
He realised that he liked and respected the twins so much that if a sceptic was to be in attendance,
He told them in advance.
He decided on the next day of tests to see what would happen when they weren't informed.
The next time his arch-nemesis was visiting,
He had the twins on two different floors and started the tests.
The researcher and the sceptic were both surprised at what happened as the tests began.
The sceptic heard the boy's voice clearly in his head say,
How do you expect me to transmit through your black cloud of doubt?
At the same time,
The girl's voice spoke inside the researcher's head and said,
How can I receive when all I can hear are your fears?
