And this is what I find hilarious about death.
Nobody actually fears the reality of dying.
There's nothing in reality to fear.
We fear our idea of dying.
We fear our projection of dying and what we imagine that it means.
And it doesn't mean that.
Do you see how it's very similar to the unknown?
Like we can say we fear the unknown,
But you don't really fear the unknown.
You fear your imagination about the unknown.
And what is dying other than walking through another door of the unknown?
Which you have done a million times.
And I guess in some way we are afraid that it is the end.
But the thing that we fear ending has already ended.
The thing that we fear losing wasn't really yours and isn't real.
Again,
All of these fears are related to stories.
And we draw our sense of identity in these stories.
Therefore,
We fear the changing of the story.
Or we fear the uncertainty about the story,
Because then it's like a self-uncertainty.
We don't know who we are.
But this will always happen when one draws their sense of identity in the mind.
Which is,
I am who I think I am.
And this is just so far from the truth,
But from a human standpoint,
It's understandable that we do that.
Which of course is why there's spirituality.
Or this flavor of inquiry to see more deeply what's true about what you really are.
And then you stop fearing those stories in the mind because those stories are real.
In effect irrelevant as it relates to what you really are.
And so the honest,
Deep inquiry about what is really true helps to heal all of these fears.
But we can't bring healing to these fears unless we completely allow them to be there.
Which is to be honest about them.
Like for me,
You know.
Even though there's nothing real to fear in reality.
It doesn't mean that fear is without purpose.
It doesn't mean that fear is wrong.
It's simply an element within the greater context of the human adventure that is simply part of it.
It's okay.
Fear can be a great pointer.
Fear points towards the illusions that we're holding on to.
For example,
Like I noticed this fear inside of myself that Something happens to me.
And.
.
.
My wife is not taken care of somehow.
Like for the rest of her life.
And as I look toward the direction of that fear,
It inspires me.
To devote my entire life to taking care of her.
And showing up in the best way that I can to do whatever I can.
To make sure she's taken care of if something happens to me.
And furthermore,
There's so much beyond my control.
Like something could happen to me tomorrow and she will be taken care of to the degree that I was able to take care of her.
And it'll just be that.
Furthermore,
She will still be held in the loving arms of God.
And life will be life,
So it'll be okay.
And the more I see the truth of these things,
I see that the fear doesn't have to be so intense,
Or it disappears.
And then re-inspires me later on.
It shows me what's really important.
I was telling her the other day.
You know,
In this world of all the things that we want.
We can have all of these fantasies of self-importance,
Which is perfectly fine if that's your thing.
Like,
Oh,
I want to be famous,
Or I want to be super rich,
Or yada,
Yada,
Yada.
And I told her,
You know,
The only thing that I really want is to take care of you.
If that was the conclusion of my life.
My wife,
This woman I've devoted myself to,
Is taken care of.
And granted any children that we might have,
Which we will at some point.
Not that I know.
To know that I did the best that I could to take care of them.
For me,
That's the prize.
And everything else's.
Irrelevant.
I just don't care about it all.
And so you see the fear.
Points towards the deeper sincerity.
Much like the fear of dying?
Could point towards a deeper sincerity about living your life.
You see the reality of your mortality.
That one day this human experience will be over.
So are you actually living?
And that fear can point you towards a freedom of thought.
Showing up in a more alive sort of way.
Like again,
For me,
There can be the fear of getting older.
Which inspires me to take care of myself today.
And the more I'm living in alignment with what is deeply sincere and honest,
Taking care of myself,
The less I fear getting older.
Do you see this?
Fear points in a way where we might not be aligned with the truth of our hearts.
Because we are blocked by these imaginary monsters?
And so the more we move through those fears or see that there's less fear,
It frees you up to live today.
To honor what's deeply important.
And so the fear is a beautiful thing.
