Connecting With Confidence
by Thom
We all experience moments when we feel unable to tackle what lies ahead. This visualization has been created to help you boost your level of confidence and help you understand that you are capable. The session starts off with simple breath work and body awareness and then moves into guided imagery. Background music by Chris Collins.

Once you've found a comfortable place,
Begin to settle in wherever you are.
Whether you are in a chair or on your cushion,
Start to slow down and bring your attention to where you are in this moment.
Take a moment to look around wherever you are,
Outside or inside,
And become aware that you are here,
Right now.
Just know where you have to be,
There's nothing you have to do.
As you get comfortable,
Find a posture that's going to allow you to be relaxed,
Yet attentive.
You can place your hands on your thighs or gently in your lap.
Once you feel at ease,
Gently close your eyes and bring your attention to your breath.
Notice all the sensations that accompany your inhale and your exhale.
Feel your chest rising and falling,
Your stomach expanding and contracting,
Feeling the coolness of air entering your nose.
The slightest stop before your inhale turns to an exhale.
And with your exhale,
Feel the warmth of the breath leaving your body.
With every exhale,
You're becoming more and more relaxed.
You're releasing any stale air,
Letting go of all tension and worry.
As you continue to monitor your breath,
You become aware that you're slowing down,
That you're relaxing.
With every exhale,
You're sinking deeper into the chair or cushion that's supporting you.
In a moment,
I'm going to ask you to take some nice,
Deep,
Full breaths.
You'd be breathing in through your nose,
Holding for a moment,
And then slowly letting them out through your mouth.
With that understanding,
Begin to take three or four nice,
Deep breaths on your own.
Th wal evaluating with you.
Complete4 Once you've completed those,
Return your breath to its normal pace,
Its normal rhythm.
Bring your awareness now to your entire body.
Bring your attention in any place that seems tense or in pain.
The goal is not to fix anything,
To change anything.
All you simply need to do is bring your attention to those areas.
And as you continue to breathe,
You feel the oxygen filling your entire body.
With every breath that you take,
You feel refreshing air filling every space.
Every cell is being rejuvenated.
And with every exhale,
You're releasing any stress,
Any tension,
And any worry.
And now in your mind's eye,
I want you to imagine yourself walking down the main street of a suburb.
Maybe it's the main street where you live.
Maybe it's one that you've imagined in your mind.
There are small shops and restaurants,
And everything looks just so quaint and casual.
And even though it's a beautiful sunny day,
There are only a few people walking down the street with you.
Some are across the street,
And some are on your side.
Your pace is so relaxed.
You're just casually walking down the street.
Your head is high,
Looking straight ahead.
Chest is out slightly.
Your shoulders are back just a little bit.
And you're just calm and assured.
As you're walking up ahead,
You see an older movie theater.
There's a big marquee over the front door.
And on that marquee is your name,
With the words,
One night only.
The theater looks familiar,
Because that's where you're heading.
In a little while,
You're going to be speaking.
You open up the front door,
And walk down a hallway,
Until you come to the theater.
You open up the doors,
And it's empty.
But it is so beautiful,
So regal.
It's a bigger theater,
With balconies and private boxes on the side.
Ornate moldings decorate the railings and the walls.
And you look around,
And you're amazed at how sophisticated it all looks.
How regal.
You make your way down the aisle,
Heading to the stage,
And walk up the side stairs,
That lead right onto the stage.
There you are in the middle of the stage,
Looking out again at this beautiful theater.
Heading out,
You see rows and rows of empty seats,
Up in the balcony,
Along the mezzanine.
You know that it will be full though.
It will be a full house.
You take it all in,
And then eventually go backstage,
Weaving your way through lights,
And ropes and wires,
Until you come to a dressing room.
You walk in,
And sit down in front of the mirror,
That is surrounded with lights.
To your right,
Is a big comfortable chair,
And draped across it,
Is what you're going to be wearing for the night.
Since it's you that people are coming to see,
You get to choose whatever you want to wear.
On that chair,
You see your favorite clothes.
You selected them,
Because they make you feel confident.
They have colors that you like.
This set of clothes accentuates the parts of your body that you admire.
You take a moment,
And you put on the clothes,
And you walk back over to the mirror.
As you take a look,
You're impressed with how you look.
You're standing tall,
Your shoulders back,
Your chest up high,
And even though you're a little bit nervous,
Knowing that you'll be going on soon,
It's manageable.
You realize the people in the audience chose to come listen to you,
Simply talk about your life.
All of your life,
The highlights,
The challenges,
The things that make you happy,
The things that bring you pain,
They want to hear all of it.
They want to know about you.
As you're getting ready,
You start to hear noise outside the dressing room.
It's close to being that time.
As you come out of the dressing room,
You see that there are people all about,
The stage is abuzz with stage hands,
Getting everything ready,
And you can definitely hear the crowd.
You can hear the murmurings of people on the other side of the curtain.
Someone comes up to you with a clipboard and lets you know that you're going on in two minutes.
You're nervous,
A little excited.
You know there's nothing to fear.
You are ready.
You're simply going to talk about your life,
And people want to hear about that.
They respect you.
In that moment,
You hear your name announcing you,
And the curtain begins to open,
And you walk out onto the stage.
As you're walking,
You're amazed by the deafening sounds of applause and cheering,
And you graciously and kindly wave and bow your head.
For the next hour,
You simply talk about what you know,
Your life.
You share your happier times,
The times you felt like giving up.
You tell those stories of when you were scared.
You talk about times when you were in love.
You share them all,
And the audience laughs and cries along with you.
And then you kindly thank the audience for sharing this time with you,
And you slowly walk off stage,
The audience still clapping,
Still cheering.
Each hand kindly pats you on the back as you head back to your dressing room.
And once you get there,
You step in and close the door,
And you're by yourself.
You sit down,
Your heart is still beating,
But it's slowly returning back to its normal pace.
You spend some time looking at yourself in the mirror,
Looking at who you are,
Proud,
Graceful.
In that moment,
It's not about the applause or the accolades.
You sit there thinking about your life up to that point,
Proud of the love that you have shown and received,
Proud to know that you are here on this earth for a reason.
You smile gently at yourself in the mirror,
Feeling so warm,
So thankful,
So happy.
It's time to come back now.
Time to bring your focus back to this day and the place that you're in right now.
I'm going to count from three to one.
When I reach one,
Your eyes will be open.
You'll be back in your room or outside,
Wherever you are,
Feeling relaxed and calm,
Feeling confident as you remember standing in front of the mirror in your dressing room,
In front of the audience,
Relaxed.
Three,
Almost there,
Beginning to feel the space around you.
Two,
Feeling calm and relaxed.
And one,
Gently open your eyes and start or continue your day.
Walk graciously and confidently,
Remembering all that you just experienced.
Namaste.
