Emotional numbness on a GLP-1 medication more common than you would think,
And how to feel more like yourself again.
The two biggest reasons I see emotional flatness on these medications are number one,
The neuroendocrine response of the medications really dampening down people's dopamine responses and it can make them feel flat.
Number two is that food isn't being used as a coping mechanism anymore and that in itself can cause a flatness.
The very thing that helped you feel alive or soothed or better is suddenly not there.
There anymore.
A big question for you is how much did food help temper or turn down emotional intensity in your life?
I know for me when I went on a GLP,
I noticed that food just didn't occupy the same amount of brain power and thinking and thoughts.
That was amazing because my brain got a break.
I wasn't thinking about food night and day.
I wasn't plotting how I was going to eat anymore.
And on the other hand,
That created a flatness,
Almost a disorientation.
If you are asking yourself or feeling like you are not getting the same amount of joy in your life anymore because of the flatness that you're feeling on a GLP-1 medication,
One of the best ways to unpack this is to ask yourself,
What was food filling in for in my life?
And actually write it down.
The second thing is to become curious about the flatness.
Oh,
That's interesting.
I'm feeling.
.
.
This sort of flat void that's new.
I wonder what would happen if I get really curious about that,
If it could teach me anything,
If it could show me a different way to take care of myself.
What do you notice if you ask that of yourself?
And then the third thing is,
How can I care for myself when I'm feeling this kind of flatness?
Is there a different approach?
Is there something new that I've never tried before that might help assist me during this feeling of flatness?
So I'm curious what you are experiencing as you're hearing this and if anything comes up for you.
