Body image after the weight comes off on a GLP-1 medication?
Lots of people want a positive body image.
Is that possible?
And does the GLP-1 experience flush out how impossible that actually is?
So stick with me for a second.
I am going to propose something that might seem radical.
Having a positive body image is a land that is very hard to visit,
Let alone live on.
And I think that there's a misnomer,
Like we go into the GLP-1 experience thinking,
Oh,
Once I lose the weight and I get healthier,
I'll have a positive body image.
When in truth,
When people reach their goals on GLP-1 medications,
I see different issues flood in,
Like,
Well,
What if I can't keep the body that I'm seeing right now?
Or what happens if my insurance stops covering it?
There's oftentimes a lot of transference of fears.
Those fears directly impact body image.
Like,
Well,
It's great today,
But what if it isn't great tomorrow?
So the biggest piece of wisdom I have embraced myself,
I teach my clients,
Is not to search for a positive body image because it's so fleeting.
But instead,
To embrace.
Peace around your body image not being the way that you want it.
So I want you to notice that for a minute.
What if you were to say to yourself,
My body image isn't exactly the way that I want it.
Am I okay with the unhappiness?
From that.
I've gone through all this work.
I've been on a long journey over years and years about how my body looks.
I'm finally making changes and making progress on a GLP-1 medication.
Still,
Maybe not exactly where I wanted to be.
Am I okay with that?
Making peace about disappointment,
No matter what our level of disappointment is,
Is an incredibly effective emotionally regulating path.
So I leave you with this.
What if you were for the next few days,
Multiple times a day to say to yourself,
My body image is a work in progress and some days I like it and some days I don't.
And I'm at peace with that.
And then notice how you feel.
Notice what you experience.
I'd love to hear what happens.
