This is part of an ongoing series of short awakening practices. This particular one helps you connect not just with your emotional heart--which opens and closes--but with your spiritual heart, the Sacred Heart, that is always open and vast as awareness itself. The Sacred Heart connects us all. Based on the teachings of Adyashanti, it can be used alone or as a companion to his The 30-Day Wake Up Challenge, or The Direct Way: 30 Practices to Evoke Awakening. I hope you enjoy it.

Hello friends.

This is a mini practice on evoking the spiritual heart.

Awareness has a heart.

This heart isn't characterized by affective emotions.

It's an intuitive capacity for perceiving the unity of existence out of which flows boundless and unconditional love.

This spiritual heart,

Or you can think of it as the sacred heart,

Is not the same as the emotional heart,

The heart that opens and closes.

The spiritual heart has no specific location though it is resonant in the body in the same region in the chest as the emotional heart.

The heart of awareness is a loving and intimately connected awareness.

It's intimacy without attachment or demand.

It can't close,

It can't open because it's always and already as open and as vast as awareness itself.

So relaxing now wherever you are,

Allow awareness to descend from around your head,

Down through your body,

And into the heart area of your chest.

For the moment,

Not focusing on the emotional heart.

The emotional heart lies within the bigger space of this spiritual heart,

The sacred heart.

Allow whatever emotions or weather may be occurring in the emotional heart to simply be as they are.

In this practice you're attending to something much more subtle than emotion.

So rest your attention down into the silence of that area of the chest where your heart rests.

Whenever you rest your attention in the heart,

You create a contact point with this spiritual heart.

The presence of the heart opening to the full flowering of the spiritual heart,

Which is connected.

So you don't need to look for any particular intense or blissful feeling.

You're simply attuning to the quiet,

The presence that abides in the spiritual heart.

Feeding that silence with your attention,

Noticing how the spiritual heart has no boundaries,

How it pervades the entire field of your awareness.

The more you experience the presence of the heart resting in that awareness,

The more the spiritual heart's capabilities are activated and blossoming can happen.

Let yourself develop the feel of awareness when you rested in the heart.

Sense the quality of presence that awareness takes on while resting in the heart.

Do this anytime you remember during the course of your day.

It could even help to gently put your hand on your heart.

And see if you can retain some of the sense of presence in the heart as you go about your daily life.

That presence that is always there,

Always available.

Be well,

My friend.
