Welcome,
I'm Teresa.
This meditation is for the minds that scan,
The bodies that anticipate,
The nervous systems that learned early that it was safer to look for what might go wrong than to be surprised.
If you are neurodivergent,
If you are highly sensitive,
If you've lived through unpredictability,
Your scanning makes sense.
Today we are not shutting it down,
We are simply letting it rest.
Take a slow breath in through your nose,
And a longer breath out through your mouth.
Let your jaw soften,
Let your shoulders drop,
And let your tongue rest gently at the bottom of your mouth.
Notice your eyes,
Even if they are closed,
Notice if they still feel alert,
And see if you can soften them even slightly.
You are not on duty right now,
Your body is supported,
And nothing is required of you in this moment.
Threat scanning is intelligent.
It's pattern recognition,
It's adaptation,
It's care.
Somewhere along the way,
Your brain learned,
If I look for the problem first,
I can prepare,
I can protect,
I can survive.
That strategy worked.
And right now,
In this moment,
There is no immediate problem to solve.
Take a deep breath.
Let your nervous system hear that clearly.
In this moment,
There is no emergency.
Take another breath.
Instead of asking what could go wrong,
Let's gently ask what is neutral right now.
Notice something ordinary,
The temperature of the air,
The weight of your clothes,
A sound in the distance.
Now ask what is slightly okay,
Not amazing,
Not perfect,
Just okay.
Let your system practice detecting safety,
Even small safety.
Your breath,
The chair beneath you,
The fact that you chose to press play.
Scanning for danger kept you alive.
Learning to scan for safety will let you live.
Let's pause and let that land.
You do not have to stop being perceptive.
You do not have to give up your awareness.
You're simply allowed to widen your focus from threat to possibility,
From vigilance to steadiness.
Take one final breath and whisper inwardly,
I can rest even if the world is imperfect.
I can soften even if I stay wise.
You are not broken.
Your nervous system is intelligent and it is safe to pause the scan.
I'll meet you in the next meditation.
As you return to your day,
Remember as always,
You are loved,
You are whole,
You are enough.
