In one of her books,
Jo Corbeck talks about a foundation for our lives.
In which our lives rest,
And that foundation,
She says,
Is simply the present moment.
In which everything takes place.
And this is really the seeing,
The hearing,
The feeling,
The sensing,
The smelling.
It's the five senses.
And she says,
If we're not there,
We're spinning,
We're fantasizing,
Imagining,
Blaming,
Complaining.
He said,
It's as simple as that.
So practice is always returning to the foundation.
I think it's about 300,
000 times.
I'm half joking,
Okay,
But maybe not.
But we're just,
You know,
It's that.
But seeing the thoughts eventually as.
.
.
Sort of unreal.
There's really a thought,
But the content isn't actually real.
That's the mistake we make.
And she was the first teacher to say that if we believe our thoughts in the way that she's talking about,
We are miserable.
End of story,
She says.
Don't try it,
Don't kid yourself.
And that's the human condition.
And all we're doing here is returning back to what's real,
Which is actually the joy of life,
The wonder of life.
You look at animals,
Not worrying about the meaning of life.
Didn't concern them,
Infants,
Worrying about how they appear.
Now,
Is my hair okay?
What's going to happen in the future.
What could have happened?
Not just what happened,
But what could have happened.
No need to worry about that.
I nearly had an accident.
So I nearly had to go to the hospital.
It's just crazy.
Now we tell people I nearly had to go to the hospital,
You know.
Off we go.
The great writer Mark Twain said,
I've had many,
Many problems in life and most of them never happened.
So let's sit,
Come back to the foundation.
I'll drop in a few pointers.
That's all you need to do.
Just feel what's here.
Lose the breath.
Let's take a deep breath or two.
And we become intimate.
With what's actually going on.
What's going on?
Simply listening to the sounds of the silence.
Not our opinions about it.
As the attention.
Worrying.
Are you resting in the foundation?
Relax into the foundation.
Thoughts will come.
It's okay.
Relax about them.
What's going on?
Or you're listening to.
Thoughts or life.
Just checking that you're not tense.
Chasing after something.
Trying to get rid of something.
There's nothing to achieve.
Okay,
A little stretch.
What do we need to do?
