Your Secret Fort
We are going to daydream now,
And go visit a magic desert island.
One filled with coconut palm trees,
And birds,
And monkeys,
And which has a secret oasis and waterfall,
And a special boat tied up and waiting for us.
You can let me be your guide there.
I promise that I know the way,
And if you listen to my voice,
You'll be there in no time.
Imagine the night sky.
It's deep blue,
And filled with twinkling stars,
With bright orange and gold,
Where the sun has just gone down.
You notice that you're laying on a soft,
Silky sleeping bag right now,
Looking up at the sky,
And the stars,
And the very bright full moon shining on you.
Beside you is a clear,
Shallow pool of soft,
Sparkling light.
You can see hints of moonlight glinting off half-buried treasure in the pool.
Your pool,
Filled with all good things that are always coming to you,
And being replenished in your life.
You and your oasis are surrounded by boulders,
And totally protected in this circle of big rocks,
In your magic oasis in the center of a hidden desert island.
It's the safest place in the world.
And this is what it looks like at night here,
When the sun has gone down,
And the sky is still bright and colorful.
Just then,
You look over and notice a light shining through a doorway.
There's a little house,
A kid-sized house,
Under the coconut trees,
Inside your circle of boulders.
You get up and walk toward this little fort.
It's made of wood and has big green palm leaves over the roof.
And right there on the door is a sign with your name,
Your name written out.
It's your fort.
But it's stronger than a fort.
It's almost like a little house.
So you walk in,
And inside it feels very snug and safe,
And the lights are on.
You see a big fluffy bed.
It's just how you like it.
You see your games and toys,
And all your favorite things there,
Too.
And there's a soft rug.
You even see a little refrigerator with all of your favorite food inside.
And of course,
A tiny bathroom.
Your house has everything you need.
And the best thing is,
Only people who know the magic words can come in.
And only you know these words,
And you can change them whenever you want.
So,
You crawl into the bed
and turn down the lights until you feel comfortable.
And then,
Just because you want to,
You make the ceiling of your house become invisible just by thinking it.
The ceiling is still there safely protecting you,
But you can see right outside into the night sky.
You lay there,
Snuggled in,
And watch as an owl passes by overhead.
You hear the crickets and frogs.
You even hear a tame monkey
telling her children a chattering goodnight in the distance.
The night is soft and bright and yummy.
You really like this dark night.
So many new things are going on.
All the colors of things change into new colors that only come out at night.
New animals come out to play and look for their dinner.
And the sun goes to bed.
And the stars come out to keep watch on everything until the sun wakes up again.
The stars are like the sun's little children.
You hear sounds and noises so much better than during the day.
You hear the sounds of your house and all the things your family does at nighttime.
You smell scents through your window that only come out at night,
Like the night-blooming flowers that open for the bats and moths,
Which are like nighttime butterflies.
The dark is quiet and simple and peaceful.
It has all the things that are there in the daytime and no more.
You never even think about being afraid of the dark.
The dark is your friend.
The dark is good to you.
It keeps you safe and watches over you all through the night while you sleep.
There is a dark sky sparkling down on you right now
as you lay snugly in your bed,
In your secret house,
In your magic oasis.
As you look up through your invisible roof,
You see a falling star.
And so you make a wish,
Any kind of wish about anything you want.
And as you make this wish,
You feel what it's like if you really had this wish.
Pretend for a minute that this wish has already come true.
What does it feel like to have your wish be real?
As you lay there in your bed,
Feeling like your wish has already happened,
You begin to think about tomorrow.
All good things will come to you tomorrow.
It's going to be a perfect day.
Tomorrow will be brand new and different.
Some really wonderful things are going to happen.
And how do you know this?
Because every day all kinds of things may happen,
But tomorrow some really good things will happen.
You'll get along with your friends and family very well all day.
You'll do a great job in class if you go to school.
And if you don't,
Then wherever you are tomorrow,
People are going to notice how smart you are,
How pretty or handsome you are,
And what a good,
Loving,
And generous heart you have.
They might even notice how good you are at doing something,
Like playing a sport,
Or playing an instrument,
Or playing some kind of creative game you make up,
Or anything that you have a special talent for.
All the things you want to have,
Or be,
Or do
will just work out for you,
Everything going your way.
And even if a few things go differently than what you want and expect,
You're just going to laugh and shake it off,
And go with the flow of things,
Going with the flow of your life,
Knowing that some things are just not important anyway.
Or maybe the next day they'll go in your favor.
Tomorrow,
You're going to wake up feeling great in the morning.
You're going to feel healthy and awake and excited.
And you just know,
You know,
That a couple really nice things will happen.
And all week will be like this.
Everyone will get along.
If you're in school,
School will go really well too.
Everything will feel easy and exciting.
Your mind is getting sleepy now.
You pull your covers around you in your secret house on your secret island.
The room is tiny and lit by little lights that twinkle all over the walls.
You hear the soft sounds of the big ocean of light that cocoons your little island.
You listen to its peaceful,
Lulling sound.
And if you have a pet,
Like a kitty or a dog,
You find that they've joined you here on your island,
And they jump into your bed with you right now.
And if you don't have a pet,
You do on this island.
So let your new pet friend come up on the bed with you and cuddle.
Safe,
Happy,
Content and sleepy.
It's time to dream.
To let your mind give you the best dreams ever tonight.
About good things happening to you,
To your family and friends,
And the people you know.
What wonderful things do you want to dream about tonight?
Think of them now.
And take them into sleep with you.
Good night,
Sweet dreams.
