This meditation will guide you to connect with and heal your inner child.
The child who might still be holding on to pain and hurt,
Embarrassment,
Shame and guilt.
Holding on to the feeling that they are not good enough.
The child who will remember what love and joy truly feel like.
The child who wants nothing more than to be loved unconditionally.
Honouring this inner child,
Connecting with it and healing it will help you to heal old wounds and help you to invite more peace into your life.
Begin by settling into a comfortable position,
Whether that's seated up or lying down.
And you may close your eyes if that feels right for you.
Feel yourself supported by the surface beneath you.
Take a moment to set a positive intention for this practice.
It could be something like.
.
.
I am open to healing and nurturing my inner child.
Take a few deep slow breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth beginning to relax and come into this moment.
Let your breathing return to normal.
Noticing the rise and fall of each breath happening in its own rhythm.
Listen to the sound of your breath as it moves in and out of your body.
Becoming more connected to your body,
More connected to this moment.
Feel how your whole body is relaxing and letting go of any tension you may be holding.
With each in-breath feeling how the oxygen nourishes and replenishes you.
With each out breath consciously choosing to release anything you're ready to let go of.
Know that you are supported.
Know that you are safe.
Surrender into this moment.
Feeling totally relaxed and at ease.
Confident that you are in control of your experience.
In this relaxed state we will take a journey into the past.
If at any point you become overwhelmed by emotions,
You can always return to the anchor of your breath which will bring you back to the present moment.
Remembering that you are safe and supported in the present and that any memories that surface are being reviewed,
Not relived by you.
Now imagine a place where you feel completely safe and at ease.
This could be a real location or a place created by your imagination.
Notice the details,
The colours,
Sounds and sensations that make this space feel secure.
In your mind's eye,
Invite your inner child to join you in this safe space.
Picture them at a specific age.
Perhaps a time when they most needed comfort or reassurance.
Notice how your inner child appears.
Notice their hair.
Their body.
Their eyes.
What are they wearing?
Pay attention to how they are standing.
Acknowledge their presence and let them know you are here to listen and support them.
Now imagine kneeling beside your inner child.
What expression can you see on their face?
Look into their eyes.
What emotions lie beneath the surface?
Perhaps you recognise sadness,
Pain.
Hurt.
Shame.
Guilt or fear.
Maybe there is a longing for understanding.
These feelings might connect to dark memories from your childhood,
Like short movies playing in your mind.
Or maybe you're simply seeing the emotions within your inner child and feeling their heaviness.
The disappointment.
The rejection.
Or the shame.
Or the fear.
It's okay to feel whatever arises.
These emotions are part of their journey and they deserve to be heard.
This precious little child has created stories around these memories and feelings.
Stories like I'm not good enough.
Or I'm not worthy.
Or I don't matter or I can't trust others or I can't have everything I want.
Your inner child created these stories to protect themselves.
These stories are like old friends,
Offering comfort in their familiar ways.
However,
They might be limiting you in your current life.
So now,
Make contact by reaching out to your inner child with kindness and compassion.
Understand what your inner child needs most in this moment.
Remember that you are the one that they trust above all others in this world.
You are their greatest source of compassion,
Of understanding.
Of reassurance and comfort.
Let them know that you are here for them,
Fully present and supportive.
Tell your inner child how special and wonderful they are.
Let them know that you understand that they have always done their very best.
Let them know how much you care and that everything will be okay.
Tell them that you are proud of everything that they have experienced.
Everything that they have learned.
You honour their journey and you respect their experiences.
Many things happened to them that were beyond their control.
And they did the best they could with what they knew.
Offer your inner child comfort for what they have been through.
Give your inner child a warm and loving hug and tell them that they are so brave.
Tell them that they are worthy of love and respect and that you love them deeply.
Smile at them.
And see them smiling back at you.
Watch the old stories begin to lose their power and fade away.
Now ask your inner child the following questions and listen carefully to their heart without judgement.
What do you need?
What can I do to make you feel better?
Is there anything that you need me to know?
If you would like,
Ask your child anything else that you need to know.
Reassure your inner child that you have heard and understood everything that they have shared.
Let them know that everything is going to be okay.
Show them that you are an adult and you have survived.
You have overcome so many obstacles and challenges that your younger self may not have even imagined possible.
Share your adult strength,
Wisdom,
Confidence,
Accomplishments and understanding with them.
I promise to protect and support them in every way from now on.
Let them know that you are here for them.
Now both of you know for certain that you will always be there.
Your inner child is reassured,
Knowing that they will be okay.
That they are safe and secure.
That they are loved unconditionally.
That as an adult they are free to make their own choices and be whoever they want to be.
From now on,
You will honour,
Respect and cherish their deepest wishes and needs.
Recognize that you and your inner child are one.
That the experiences you both share make up the reality of who you truly are.
Being one means that you can return and visit and spend time with your inner child whenever you want.
Remember that you have the power to love and support your inner child.
Just as they hold the key to your innocence,
Your creativity and your youthful joy and vitality.
As your time together with your inner child draws to a close.
Offer every part of them and every part of yourself love,
Gratitude and acceptance.
Acceptance for your shared journey and the growth and insight you have both gained.
Take one last look at your inner child and feel reassured that they have received all of your love and understanding.
Thank your inner child for trusting you and for being part of this healing journey.
Gently say goodbye and part ways.
Knowing that you can reconnect anytime you choose to.
Take a last deep and nourishing breath in.
And fully let go.
Returning to the present moment.
Feeling light and at peace.
When you are ready,
Gently open your eyes.
Knowing that you are safe,
Secure and loved.
