Why You Keep Going Back to the Same Patterns

You might feel like you’re doing the work, becoming more aware, and yet still finding yourself repeating the same patterns. In this short talk, I explore why change isn’t always immediate and how familiarity can keep us returning to what we already know, even when it no longer serves us. This is a gentle reminder that you’re not going backwards. You may simply be moving through something more deeply.

If you keep repeating the same patterns in your life,

It's not because you're not trying hard enough.

Here's a relatable truth.

It can feel like you're doing the work and you're becoming more aware and yet you still end up in the same place.

I want to bring a personal reflection in here for you.

For a long time I thought something was wrong with me,

Like I just couldn't break the cycle.

But what I started to realise is it's not just a mental pattern.

It's something your body recognises as familiar.

Even if it's uncomfortable,

Even if it's not good for you,

It's known.

There's a deeper layer here,

So let's get into it.

The nervous system will always choose what's familiar over what's unfamiliar.

Even if the unfamiliar is technically better for you.

But I really want you to reframe this.

So it's not forcing you to change,

Or it's not about forcing yourself to change.

It's about slowly creating safety in something new.

So I'm going to leave you with this.

Because you're not broken.

You're just used to something your body learned to survive.
