Hello little dreamers and welcome to this Christmas sleep story,
Lottie and the Lost Reindeer.
So make sure that you're nice and cosy,
Tucked up in bed and ready to begin this adventure together.
Once upon a starry cold winter's night,
There was a little girl tucked up in bed named Lottie.
Lottie was known for her love of animals and she had the kindest,
Sweetest heart.
Lottie loved Christmas,
Especially the snow that was falling outside of her window.
One night,
Lottie couldn't fall asleep.
She couldn't stop feeling excited about Christmas and all of the activities and fun that was to be had this time of year.
Getting herself out of bed,
She looked outside of her window,
But she was quite amazed at what she saw snuffling about in the snow.
There,
Nestled between the frost-covered trees,
Lottie could see a reindeer.
It looked quite lost and afraid,
And immediately Lottie knew she needed to go and help the lost reindeer.
Putting on her coat,
Her welly boots,
A thick scarf and a woolly hat,
She opened the back door of her house and went to find the reindeer.
At first,
The lost reindeer looked very scared and worried,
Since it didn't know who Lottie was.
Lottie reached out her hands and reassured the frightened reindeer.
Hello,
Little one.
Don't worry,
I'll help you find your way home,
Lottie said.
Reaching out and stroking the reindeer's soft nose,
It leant into her touch,
Immediately feeling reassured that it was going to find its way home with Lottie's help.
Now,
Since there were still quite a few nights left of December before we reached Christmas Eve,
Lottie knew that she had some time before Father Christmas would need the reindeer back to pull the sleigh so that he could deliver gifts across the world.
But nevertheless,
They began their search that very night,
Determined to reunite the lost reindeer with Father Christmas,
Or at least help it find its way home again.
Lottie embarked on a heartfelt quest,
Knowing that they were safe as they were together.
The lost reindeer,
With its large antlers,
Walked alongside Lottie through the frost-covered forest.
As the sun was rising,
There was a blue haze to the snow-covered forest surrounding them,
Lottie's small footprints alongside the reindeers,
Leaving a trail in the snow behind them.
They began their quest by looking for clues.
As they searched,
Staying within eyesight of Lottie's house,
They looked for anything that might have fallen to the ground when the reindeer had found their way to Lottie's home.
Eventually,
Lottie could see that the reindeer was so tired,
And she herself hadn't had much sleep she herself hadn't had much sleep the night before,
With too much excitement stirring in her mind.
Patting the lost reindeer on the shoulder,
Lottie guided it back to her house,
Finding a cozy bed in the family stable alongside the house.
The stable had soft hay,
Warm blankets,
And with a sprinkle of love,
Lottie transformed it into a cozy bed for her new friend.
Leaving the reindeer to have a little nap,
Lottie returned to the house to have breakfast with her family.
Throughout the day,
She wondered what she could do.
How could she help the lost reindeer find its way home when she didn't know where it had come from,
Or where it needed to go?
After planning,
And thinking,
And having quite a lovely nap in front of the fireplace,
Lottie came up with a plan.
Lottie came up with a plan.
Going outside into the snow,
Lottie began shoveling and moving as much snow as possible with her trusty spade,
Writing an important message that she gathered Father Christmas would be able to see from the sky.
Since,
Of course,
He needed his reindeer back to pull his sleigh,
She knew that he would be searching for the reindeer.
And as he flew overhead,
He would see her message in the snow.
So pulling together as much snow as she could,
With twigs,
Branches,
Rocks,
She managed to form some words in the snow.
And her friend,
The lost reindeer that had been sleeping in the stable,
Came out to help her,
Pushing rocks and carrying logs in its mouth.
Eventually,
Their task was complete.
Written in the snow was the message,
Santa,
Stop here.
The plan had to work.
Lottie had so much hope in her heart,
Because she could feel how scared and afraid the lost reindeer was.
Venturing back into the house,
She picked some carrots and brought them out to her reindeer friend,
Tucking it back into bed,
Hoping that if Santa made his way across the sky,
The reindeer would hear and come out and be taken back home.
After spending the whole day together,
The reindeer and Lottie had formed a lovely friendship.
And so,
Wrapping her little arms around the reindeer's neck,
They hugged one another.
And although the reindeer couldn't speak,
Lottie knew how grateful it was for all of her help.
Yawning and stretching her arms over her head,
She made her way back to the house.
Taking off her woolly hat,
Her long scarf,
Her welly boots and coat,
And removing her wet socks,
She got ready for bed,
Brushing her teeth and combing her hair.
Snuggling down into the soft blankets,
Leaving the curtains just a little bit open,
In case she managed to spot the reindeer.
Leaving the curtains just a little bit open,
In case she managed to spot Santa flying through the sky that very night.
Lottie was so tired.
She had spent the whole day helping her reindeer friend.
She'd moved logs,
Carried branches,
Piled up snow,
And walked all around the forest.
Can you imagine,
Little dreamer,
Just how tired you would be if you had done all of that today?
And so it's understandable that Lottie fell asleep oh so quickly.
Her eyelids felt so heavy that they closed completely on their own.
Her covers were pulled right up to her ears,
And her head was buried in the world's softest pillow.
Falling into a deep and dreamless sleep,
The night was so quiet.
The only sounds was the creaking of branches in the forest.
Until,
In the middle of the night,
Lottie was awoken by the distant sound of sleigh bells.
Excitement filled the air as Lottie quickly woke up,
And ran outside,
Of course,
With her coat,
And her hat,
And her scarf,
Because it was very cold,
To see a sleigh.
Santa,
With a twinkle in his eye,
Climbed out of the sleigh,
And the lost reindeer,
Who was now happily reunited,
Joyfully leaped into the air.
Lottie's heart swelled with happiness,
And Lottie's heart was filled with joy.
As the true meaning of Christmas came to her,
The spirit of giving,
Helping others,
And the magic of making dreams come true.
And so,
Under the night sky,
Father Christmas buckled the lost reindeer back onto the sleigh with the rest of their reindeer friends.
Reaching down to give Lottie a warm hug,
Her nose pressed into the fluffy fur of his red suit.
He stepped back into the sleigh,
Ready to go back to the North Pole,
And continue his preparations for a very busy Christmas Eve.
With the jingling of bells,
Lottie watched as the reindeers pulled the sleigh up,
Up,
Into the night sky,
And fading into the distance with nothing but a twinkle.
Wandering back into the house,
With a smile on her face,
Lottie crept back up the stairs and into bed,
Snuggling down once more,
Knowing that she would dream of sleigh rides,
Of flying through the night sky with her lost reindeer friend,
And the adventures they might have.
And as Lottie drifted back to sleep,
So too will you,
Little dreamer,
Feeling your eyelids get heavier and heavier,
Allowing yourself to drift asleep.
Join us next time for another Christmas story.
Until then,
May the magic of the season fill your hearts with joy.
Good night,
Little dreamers.
