Hello and welcome to this Reset Your Dopamine meditation.
Modern life is constantly pulling our attention outward.
Scrolling notifications,
Quick bursts of information,
And endless stimulation train the brain to keep searching for the next thing.
Over time,
This can leave our mind feeling restless,
Distracted or mentally drained.
This meditation is a simple reset that you can do daily to help step away from constant stimulation and return to stillness.
So let's begin by getting comfortable.
Closing your eyes or softening your gaze.
Take a slow deep breath in through your nose and exhale through your mouth in a sigh.
Allowing your body to begin settling into this moment.
Let's also acknowledge that this practice might feel challenging and difficult at first.
It might take some patience and consistency to really see change and to receive the benefits.
All we are asking of you is to remain present and focused on this moment.
And we begin that focus with our breath.
We start to notice the inhale as it moves through the body and the exhale as it releases any tension that we are holding on to.
There's nothing you need to force here.
There's nothing for you to focus on apart from your breathing.
Slowly and naturally.
If your mind begins searching for stimulation or jumping between thoughts,
That's completely normal.
Your brain has simply become used to constant input.
So each time you notice your attention wandering,
Gently guide yourself back to noticing your breath.
As your breathing slows,
Imagine your mind settling the way water becomes clear when it is no longer being stirred.
At first there might still be movement,
But gradually things become quiet and still.
Your attention becomes steadier and your nervous system begins to relax.
Allowing your shoulders to soften,
Your jaw to unclench and your body to rest exactly as it is.
Each moment you spend in stillness helps your brain remember how to focus,
How to rest and how to exist without constant stimulation.
This is how our attention span resets.
Not through force,
But through gentle moments of presence like this one.
Before you open your eyes and return to the space around you,
Tune in to any sounds that are happening nearby.
The feeling of the ground beneath you.
The sensations you're experiencing in your body.
And when you're ready,
Opening your eyes.
Resisting the temptation to open another app to distract yourself even more.
And seeing how much more present you can become with your day.
From this short practice to reset your dopamine and fix your attention span.
Try and return here for the next seven days and notice how much easier it becomes with consistency.
And in fact,
You might even start to find that you enjoy this moment of presence.
