Fruit meditation "Experience your food in a thankful way." (practice with a piece of fruit). Checka and Shakta collaborated on this project with the intention that this audio album would be a lovely balance between communicating in a way that honors children’s depth and wisdom and giving them tools that are fun and totally relevant to their lives and interests.

For this fruit meditation,

You will need an apple,

Banana,

Orange or whatever fruit you like the best.

Sit in a comfortable pose with your back straight.

Cup your hands around your fruit and hold it at a comfortable level in front of you so that you can see it without bending forward.

What other senses are you using with your fruit right now?

Your eyes can see it,

Your hands can feel it,

Your nose may be able to smell it.

Now look at your fruit,

Its shape and its color.

Then for a minute close your eyes and smell its scent.

Gently feel your fruit.

Keeping your eyes closed now,

Think of the long journey that this fruit has made before being in your hands today.

Let's go way back in time to a time before this fruit existed.

First a tiny seed was planted in the earth.

The tiny seed began to grow roots into the earth.

See a small green shoot breaking through the earth and beginning to grow in the sunshine.

The rain,

The earth and the sun all helped to give food to this tiny plant.

After some time in the rain,

Wind and sun,

The plant became a tree with a thick trunk,

Branches and leaves.

As time went on,

Blossoms grew and after the blossoms a tiny piece of fruit began to grow.

Imagine your fruit ripening in the sun,

Getting bigger and bigger until finally your fruit was ready to be picked.

One day someone came in a truck,

Climbed a ladder,

Picked the fruit,

Put it in a box and brought it to a store.

Another person went to the store,

Bought the fruit and brought it here to you.

So now think of the long and amazing journey that your piece of fruit went through to be with you today.

And send a feeling of appreciation,

A blessing from your thoughts,

From your breath,

From your eyes and from your hands.

Inside your heart say thank you to this fruit for being here with you.

Now open your eyes and begin to eat your fruit.

Notice how extra special it seems to taste after your meditation.

Enjoy its flavor.

Now as you finish your meditation,

Think about your fruit and realize that the blessing that you put into the fruit is now going into you as you eat it.
