Self-discipline is choosing what you want most over what you want right now.
Hello my beloveds,
Today we practice the 16th meditation in our Lent series.
Today's meditation is simply one of encouragement through words of affirmation.
To prepare our hearts and minds for this meditation,
I invite you to close your eyes if it's safe and helpful to do so.
Relax your body.
In a comfortable position,
You can remain in for a few minutes.
In other words,
Be still.
Adopt an attitude of gratitude and non-judgment.
In this meditation specifically,
It's particularly important to let go of self-admonishment and condemnations.
In other words,
Adopt an attitude of non-judgment,
Especially toward oneself,
And embrace a heart and mindset of peace and loving-kindness.
Self-discipline is choosing what you want most over what you want right now.
These words by Abraham Lincoln are meant to encourage us to make the decisions that are going to help us achieve our ultimate and eventual long-term life goals,
Over and above the decisions that are going to create only instant and fleeting gratification,
Especially when those moments of fleeting instant gratification get in the way of our long-term goals.
Self-discipline is simply choosing what you want most over what you want right now.
Let's simply give ourselves some space to meditate upon these words.
Self-discipline is choosing what you want most over what you want right now.
Thank you for meditating with me today,
My beloveds.
And today,
May you be encouraged to choose what you want most.
May grace and peace,
Light and love be with you.
