Welcome to this morning solar practice.
We're going to be doing a practice called right nostril breathing.
Breathing through the right nostril.
The goal here is to begin to activate and connect to the solar energy that's described by the ancient yogis in this right side nostril.
So the yogis talk about the energy system,
The nadi system,
The pranic system of this subtle body.
And three of these primary channels are ida,
Pingala,
And sushumna.
Sushumna being the central channel from the base of the spine all the way upward.
And then ida and pingala starting at the base of the spine crisscrossing all the way up around the chakra system.
And then eventually ending up in the nostrils.
Left side ida feminine lunar energy.
Right side pingala masculine solar energy.
So in the morning time can be really helpful to connect to that solar energy.
The practice is subtle but the benefits are real.
Especially when done continuously and over time.
So if this resonates with you,
Keep coming back to this practice as a nice gentle morning energizing practice.
So we're going to be using the left hand to block the left nostril.
The thumb is alongside the hand and we just place enough pressure on the left nostril so that we can breathe only in and out through the right side.
Now if your nose is clogged,
You'll just want to clear up your nose either using jalaneti,
Neti pot,
Or perhaps just simply blowing the nose.
So you want to make sure you've got a clear passageway through that right side.
Let's take a moment to ground and center.
Go inward.
So close the eyes.
Begin to lengthen from the root of your body all the way up through the crown of your head.
Relax your shoulders.
Settle into your seat.
Breathe through your nose.
Nice relaxed breath.
Really becoming curious and aware of each breath.
Noticing the length of your inhale,
The length of your exhale,
And sensing that you're able to soften your body with each exhalation.
There's a deeper releasing and arriving here in this moment.
And before we move into the practice,
Also recognizing this work on the level of the nadis and the pranic system is subtle.
It's subtle work.
So we're not expecting any kind of big fireworks or huge result from this practice.
But we trust in the wisdom of the teachings,
Trusting in this incredible wisdom of this yogic system,
Connecting to this wonderful solar energy through this right nostril,
Preparing ourselves for an incredible and vibrant day.
Notice if your body or mind are tense.
Notice if you feel any gripping and continue to soften that gripping.
Release through the body.
Release any effort in the mind.
And then preparing your left hand,
Thumb alongside the fingers.
Gently close off the left nostril and begin to breathe comfortably in and out through the right nostril.
And we're going to be here for a few minutes.
The breath is nice and smooth,
Nice and relaxed.
The body also remains relaxed.
In a subtle way,
Just begin to recognize,
Bring awareness to this right nostril.
And sense that you're activating this solar energy.
If at any point you find that the mind has wandered away,
You just very playfully bring it back,
Knowing that this is part of the practice.
The mind wanders,
We're aware of the wandering,
And we simply bring the awareness back.
Continue to breathe comfortably through your right nostril.
Keep breathing.
Allow your awareness to rest at the center of the mind.
So it's the center of the forehead,
Deep within the center of the mind.
Breathe with awareness into that space.
Again,
If the mind wanders,
You just notice.
And gently bring the mind back.
Just a few more breaths.
When you're ready,
Start to gently release the hand down.
Keep your awareness inward.
Completely relax the breath,
Breathing through both nostrils.
Tuning in with this moment.
Tuning in with yourself.
Noticing how you feel.
You're welcome to stay here.
You're welcome to stay here.
Continue with your own practice.
Or we can transition and close the practice together.
You can bring hands to prayer if you'd like,
And gently bow the head.
So we're going to do the same thing for the right nostril.
We're going to bring the right hand to the left nostril,
And we're going to bring the left hand to the right nostril,
And we're going to bring the left hand to the right nostril,
And we're going to bring the left hand to the right nostril,
And we're going to bring the left hand to the left nostril,
And we're going to bring the left hand to the right nostril,
And we're going to bring the left hand to the right nostril,
And we're going to bring the left hand to the right nostril,
And nice heat into these palms.
And when they're nice and warm,
You cover the eyes.
Let that warmth nourish the eyes.
And then you slowly release the hands.
Thank you so very much for joining.
I hope to see you very soon.
Have an incredible day.
