Hi,
My name is Sean Corey.
Welcome to today's practice of mindful movement.
This is a short standing sequence designed to reconnect you with your breath and rebalance your nervous system.
In yoga,
The great masters talk about prana,
Which is the subtle life force energy.
This source of life resides in each of us and by aligning our movement to our breath,
We can connect to this profoundly nourishing source.
Let's begin by standing up nice and tall,
Settle the weight into the feet,
Relax your shoulders down and then soften your gaze or close your eyes,
Bring your awareness inward.
Allow your breath to flow in and out through your nose,
A nice smooth,
Even breath rhythm.
And with each exhalation,
Begin to soften the way that you hold your body.
Release tension through your face,
Your shoulders,
Your arms and your legs.
In a moment,
We'll begin to move.
And if you're not in a position to move right now,
You can just continue with this relaxed breath awareness.
And if you're ready to move,
As you inhale,
For the length of your inhalation,
Sweep your arms out and overhead,
Palms facing up,
Extend all the way overhead.
And as you exhale,
Palms face down,
Arms back alongside the body.
And let's repeat that for the length of the inhale,
Arms sweep up,
Length of the exhale,
Arms sweep down.
Keep moving at the rhythm of your breath.
Nice,
Gentle movement upward,
Expanding,
Extending.
Each exhale,
The arms lower.
Good,
Next inhale,
Let's extend the arms overhead,
Keep them extended.
Really reach up so you can create some length through the sides of your body.
Take a deep inhale,
Clasp your hands together and then press your palms up and away.
As you exhale,
Stretch over toward your right side.
This slight crescent moon shape here.
Keep pressing up through the palms.
Breathe into the left side of your body.
Good,
Inhale,
Come back to center.
As you exhale,
Stretch up and over to the left side.
Pressing through the palms,
Staying nice and long,
And then breathing into the right side of your body.
Good,
Come back to center.
Unclasp your hands and then as slowly as you can,
Gradually let the arms release back alongside the body.
Take a few moments to be still.
Relax,
Breathe into this present moment.
This is a really simple practice that you can continue to come back to anytime you need to reset.
Starting with awareness on the breath and then simply moving the body at the pace of the breath.
Helping to calm your nervous system and over time,
Giving you a greater felt experience of prana.
The life force,
The nourishing source that resides within you.
