Debbie suggested we go to the waterfall to record one of her sound baths. We all took a taxi from the station to the top of the mountain above the falls and followed the stream down the mountain to a broken dam which was part of the waterfall. We found a shady respite by the stream and set up our equipment. Allen brought along his carbon fiber digeridoo and drum, Debbie brought some bowls and other objects. I set up the microphone next to the river in a 'lying down’ position on the ground. This brought the mics closer to the bowls and the water at the same time. When I listened back to the recording, the track is different than what I was expecting. I thought that the water noise would drown out the higher pitched bowls but actually everything came out very nice and balanced. The white noise of the stream really helped block out the other sounds from passing hikers. After the recordings, we continued down the mountain to the MTR station in the sweltering heat.
