Sound Bath Sessions 112: Fatin Zulkefly
Singapore, Day 6. Fatin was recommended by Bishal and since my schedule has been pretty full, the only time was the morning on the day of my flight back to Hong Kong. She was keen on playing outdoor and I thought recording another morning chorus track, this time in Singapore, would be perfect. We met at 4:30 at Fort Canning Park and found a spot at the top of the park in a flat area with tall trees. Fatin plays metal bowls she bought from Bishal and her style is slow and highly improvised. She has an interior design background so I felt that she would be up for experimentation to try some ideas and concepts during the recordings. Depth: Our first recording was made in a traditional fashion so I could hear her style. Fatin played the bowls in a stationary position in front of the microphone. She had many bowls laid out and a sense of depth could be heard depending on their distance from the microphone. Some quiet, some loud in a sort of 2D image.
