This track is part of the Emergence exhibition. On a bridge over a small stream in Chung Uk Tsuen I recorded the last one of Wai’s sessions. Rainclouds were slowly approaching as we began the final recording. Wai starts by listening to the natural sounds of the stream for a few minutes before playing his metal bowls. It was then the soft drizzle began to fall but that didn’t distract him from his session. He began to play his shamanic drum in a sustained repetitive rhythm, its deep tones resonating like a heartbeat. Pools formed in his bowls as the rain kept falling but we remained until the end of the session. The natural atmosphere of the piece feels quite vast as there was no resonance to create a space. In contrast, his sounds are more direct and isolated.
