Sound Bath Sessions 097: Kathy Kwan
On an early spring day, I ventured to Lo Wai Tsuen to Enlightening Platform to record Kathy. Enlightening Platform is a restored temple complex in a quiet neighborhood above a running stream. The temple is a sort of community center that holds mindfulness-related events. In mid-afternoon the place had a calm, cool stillness to it. The paintings decorating the outside of the space showed that it was an important part of the local community and of Hong Kong. Kathy herself has been coming here since she was little. The second recording was a short, beautifully sang vocal practice where she sang songs from the Plum Village organization. Plum Village promotes mindfulness practices and singing is one of them. Kathy sometimes sings at the end of her sessions to wake people up, but also to show that people are also singing bowls and that our speech and song have the power to heal. She sang three songs, the final was a blessing for listeners to take with them as they leave.
