Hello friend.
Welcome to Authoring Hope.
The Coffee Shop Sessions.
There's something I love about sitting in the familiar atmosphere of a coffee shop.
The quiet conversations,
The background noise.
The warmth of a drink in your hands.
And the feeling that life is moving around you while you take a moment to pause within it.
These sessions are designed to help you sink into that pause and claim it.
And invite you to write a little with a space to reflect,
To breathe,
To journal.
And to reconnect with yourself for a little while.
I'll gently guide you through each session with prompts,
Reflections and writing exercises.
Designed to help you find a little clarity.
Process your thoughts.
And explore what's happening beneath the surface.
And while I loved this idea of a coffee shop.
You really can do this anywhere.
A quiet room at home.
A park bench,
A train journey.
Or a cosy corner of a library.
The important thing is simply this.
You're choosing to pause intentionally.
So wherever you are and whatever's in your cup.
I'm really glad you're here.
Today's session.
Is called roots.
To connect with who you truly are.
Before we begin.
Gather yourself a drink that you can savour slowly.
Find a corner of a coffee shop or a quiet table.
Somewhere where you can settle for the next hour without rushing.
When we return to our roots.
It might be we explore the stories that shaped us.
The values that steady us.
And perhaps some parts of ourselves that may have been neglected.
So open your notebook.
And take a breath.
There is no need to hurry here.
Place both hands around your drink.
Or upon your body if you prefer.
Either way,
Feeling a sense of warmth.
Notice your breathing,
Easeful and unhurried.
Peaceful inhales.
Useful exhales.
As we begin our journey of settling.
You might imagine yourself like a tree.
Above the surface is the visible life.
The achievements.
The conversations.
The responsibilities.
But underneath are the roots.
Quiet thing.
Invisible thoughts.
And deeper structures holding you together.
As we breathe here.
You may ask yourself.
What part of me?
Has been asking to be remembered.
What part of me has been asking to be remembered?
And sit simply with that question in our mind's eye for a moment.
No need to answer immediately.
Just breathe.
Just listen.
And when you feel ready to begin writing.
Our first of three prompts is this.
What experiences have most shaped the person I've become?
What experiences have most shaped the person I've become?
So this can be big,
Dramatic moments.
But also small moments.
A sentence someone said.
A season that changed you.
A friendship.
A place.
I'm going to give you seven minutes to write about the experiences that are still part of you.
Seven minutes with what experiences have most shaped the person I've become.
Give yourself a moment to finish your sentence,
Your thought,
Your idea.
And when you feel ready,
We'll move on to prompt two.
What values do I want my life to stand upon?
What values do I want my life to stand upon?
If we were to strip away appearances and expectation.
What genuinely matters to you now?
What kind of person do you want to be when nobody is watching?
Seven minutes with what values do I want my life to stand upon?
Take your time to finish your sentence or your idea.
As we explore our third writing prompt.
Where have I become disconnected from myself?
Where have I become disconnected from myself?
Have you ignored your instincts or minimized your needs?
Do you feel you have performed instead of living honestly?
And what would reconnection look like?
Our third writing prompt.
For seven minutes,
Where have I become disconnected from myself?
Take your time as we come to the end of that seven minute block.
You can finish your sentence or your thoughts.
And you can take a minute here if you'd like to enjoy a few sips of your drink or roll your shoulders,
Have a little stretch.
As we prepare ourselves for a deeper dive writing task.
You'll have 12 minutes for this one.
And the task is this.
Write the story of your life as a chapter called Returning.
We'll write as though this chapter marks a turning point.
A moment where you stopped abandoning yourself.
Or a moment where you chose truth over performance.
Or depth over distraction.
Describe what you are returning to.
For 12 minutes,
Write the story of your life as a chapter called Returning Home.
You as we come.
To the close of our writing task.
Take your time to finish any words,
Any thoughts.
And during this closing time for reflection,
And indeed after this recording ends,
You can take as long as you like to read back through what you've written.
You can underline any words or phrases that feel grounding.
You might gather up words and phrases that help you explore.
What the life you want to build is rooted in.
You do not need to reinvent yourself.
Sometimes healing.
Begins by returning to what was always true.
So the words we have written may help us explore on our onward journey what the life we want to build is rooted in.
A spark does not need to become a wildfire overnight.
It only needs a little space to breathe.
Thank you for sharing these moments with me.
I hope this session gave you a little space to pause amidst the familiar hum of life.
A quiet moment to gather your thoughts.
Conjure new ideas.
And let plans gently brew.
Farewell for now.
And until next time.
Keep writing.
Keep reflecting.
And keep authoring hope.
