Are you comfortable?
Are you supported?
Are you somewhere soft?
Like a tree supported by the earth,
Roots sheltered in the soft ground.
Breathe in naturally,
Without the weight of judgement or expectation,
With the lightness of air.
Noticing if the air flows deeply into your lungs,
Or is it lying shallow in the ribcage?
Breathe out.
Notice how your chest sinks,
Softens,
Falling toward the earth.
Breathe in like a leaf opening its stomata.
You are in an exchange with nature.
As you inhale,
Oxygen produced by leaves flows in.
As you exhale,
Carbon dioxide leaves you to be taken up by those leaves.
Imagine a plant near you,
An imaginary plant or one in the garden or house.
Breathe in its offering to you,
And breathe out your offering to it.
For a minute,
Engage in this exchange,
Just breathing naturally.
Plants sometimes need to take in oxygen to respire and make energy,
When they don't make quite enough of their own,
When energy is low.
Sometimes we may need extra help too,
When we are short on energy.
With every in-breath you fuel your body,
And with every out-breath you let go of something you don't need,
In this case carbon dioxide.
What else could you let go of that isn't helping you?
A thought,
A feeling,
A hurt or a pain?
You might start to feel heavy as you move your thoughts to something that takes energy,
Instead of supplying it.
Can you isolate the thought or feeling,
And imagine encasing it in a bubble?
And as you breathe out,
Imagine the bubble being exhaled,
Taking all its contents with it,
Falling to the ground like a dropped leaf,
Shedding what you don't need.
You can treat it gently,
Whatever it is,
Wrapped in a soft bubble,
Falling gently,
Like a leaf tumbles slowly through the air,
Full of whatever the plant wants to remove.
There's no need to be harsh.
Just explore encapsulating,
Exhaling and allowing the bubbles with their contents to fall away.
The thoughts wrapped in a bubble,
Pushed out with your breath,
And let go of,
Falling softly to the ground.
Now return to your exchange with the plants,
Breathing in that which nourishes you,
Letting go of that which does not,
And slowly return to noticing the supportive ground or soft surface below you.
Rock your head side to side,
Returning your senses to the world around you,
Lighter for shedding old leaves.
Keep on breathing.
Keep on growing.
Keep on and till anon.
