Take a moment to allow your body to settle.
Whether you're seated or laying down.
Bring your awareness into this space.
There's nothing you need to fix or perform or be.
You're completely off the clock.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in through your nose.
And release it with a soft sigh through your mouth.
Again,
Inhale slowly.
And exhale,
Letting your shoulders drop away from your ears.
Gently bring your mind to a situation in your life right now where you feel pulled to say yes,
But every part of you wants to say no.
It could be a work task,
A social invitation,
Or a favor for a family member.
As you hold this situation in your mind.
Notice what happens in your body.
Where do you feel tension?
Is it a tightening in your throat?
A flutter or knot in your stomach.
A bracing in your chest.
This physical sensation is your body's automatic response to the fear of disappointing someone else.
Just notice it.
You don't need to push it away.
Place your hand over your chest or upper belly,
Wherever it is that you feel that tension.
Silently say to yourself.
It is safe for me to have limits.
Breathe into the space under your hand.
I can care about others and still choose myself.
Notice the story your mind tries to tell.
Maybe it says.
If I say no,
Then I'm selfish.
Gently question that story.
Is it truly selfish to honour your limits?
Or is it honest?
Saying no is not a weapon.
Saying no is a boundary.
One that marks simply where your capacity ends.
Now I want you to imagine that you are standing or sitting in full and complete control of your life.
You're clear.
Rooted.
Visualize delivering a calm,
Quiet,
And firm no.
You don't need to over explain.
Or make any excuses.
Simply.
I'm not able to do that.
But thank you for asking.
Right now,
In this situation,
Do you notice the impulse to fix their reaction?
Practice staying in your own body instead.
Let their feelings belong to them and let your space belong to you.
Inhale deeply.
Claiming and holding your symptoms.
And exhale slowly,
Letting go of the need to manage everyone else.
Take one final deep breath into your core.
Remember your worth is not measured by your availability to others.
And when you're ready.
Gently open your eyes and return to your day.
Carrying your center with you.
You're ready to explore deeper individual identity work.
