Welcome to this prayer for your parents,
An exercise from Bert Hellinger's work.
This practice is intended to be done one parent at a time and is especially calming and supportive when done before sleep.
It offers immense healing when repeated daily to both your mother and father.
Let's begin by finding a comfortable seated position or lying down and closing your eyes.
Take a deep breath in through your nose and exhale through your mouth,
Releasing any tension or heaviness in your body and mind.
With each exhalation,
Allow yourself to let go of the day's events and sink deeper into relaxation.
Take another deep breath in,
Filling your belly and chest with air,
And breathe out through your mouth,
Allowing yourself to relax even further.
You can repeat the prayer out loud or silently to yourself.
First,
Invite your beautiful mother to stand before you and say,
Dear Mom,
Thank you for the beautiful gift of life.
I accept it fully,
With everything it cost you and everything it cost me.
I will make something good out of my life to honor you and bring you joy,
So that your life and suffering were not in vain.
I hold on to it and honor it,
And if I can,
I will pass on the good forward,
Just as you did.
I take you as my mother,
And you can hold me as your child.
You are the only right mother for me,
And I am the right child for you.
You are the big one,
And I am the small one.
You give,
I take,
Dear mom.
I am grateful that you chose God to be your man.
Both of you are the right ones for me.
I return to you the burdens I have carried that belong to you.
I took them out of love.
What is behind you and between you and dad belongs with you.
I know now that you are strong enough to carry it yourself.
I carry only what is mine with grace.
Please bless me when I do better than you did.
Take a deep breath in and exhale through your mouth.
Now,
Invite your beautiful father to stand before you.
And say,
Dear dad,
Thank you for the life you gave me.
I accept it fully,
With everything it cost you and everything it cost me.
I will make something good out of it to honor you and bring you joy,
So that your life and suffering were not in vain.
I hold on to it and honor it.
And if I can,
I will pass on the good forward,
Just as you did.
I take you as my father and you can hold me as your child.
You are the only right father for me.
And I am the right child for you.
You are the big one and I am the small one.
You give,
I take,
Dear dad.
I am grateful that you chose mom to be your wife.
Both of you are the right ones for me.
I return to you the burdens I have carried that belong to you.
I took them out of love.
What is behind you and between you and mom belongs with you.
I know now that you are strong enough to carry it yourself.
I carry only what is mine with grace.
Please bless me when I do better than you did.
Take a deep breath in and exhale through your mouth.
This practice is best done in the evening before bed,
Ideally with a photo of your parents as you say the prayer out loud.
It may bring up emotions,
Which is a positive sign.
Over time,
This practice will become a natural part of your reality.
Thank you and wishing you a lovely night.
