Surrender.
Her body softened with each breath,
Going deeper still.
Breath by breath,
She surrendered the fight.
The thoughts continued to come,
And as they did,
The tears began to flow.
Really softly,
Breaking through the slant in her eyes.
The memories,
The pain,
The thoughts of unforgiveness,
Fear,
Hurt,
And brokenness.
Lying beneath the surface,
Breaking forth,
Like the small,
Steady trickle that fills the reservoir of the past.
She began to lie in this space of stillness and surrender,
Watching her body from the outside of herself.
For once,
There was an emergence of compassion towards not just herself,
But the others around her who had wounded the depth of her soul.
The phases,
One by one,
Eye to eye came.
In the moment where she once chose to lash onto the pain to fight back,
Now she chose to let the chain go.
She saw the chain collapse.
She heard it fall,
Crashing to the ground.
The two on the scene set free.
But there was a third present.
The offended,
The offender,
And the healer.
God.
He was there in the comfort,
Compassion,
Gentleness,
And humility of heart.
The soothing balm of Gilead,
The peace beyond understanding.
It broke free.
It flowed.
Surrender.
The inhibitions to keep score,
Defend and define the right or the wrong,
Flowed from her body,
Only to leave and not return.
With each tear that exited,
The emotion went with it,
Wiped away,
Released,
And bottled up by her healer.
I invite you in this moment to find a place to lie down,
To sit,
To close your eyes,
To release,
To breathe and be still.
As you begin to take that deep inhale,
Breathe in.
And as you exhale,
Let it ride out like a wave on the shore,
Slapping the sand,
Crashing and yet folding underneath.
Continue on that inhale,
Riding it deep,
Expanding it wide,
Feeling the energy and the space inside.
And as you exhale,
Let it go.
As you take this moment to breathe into the stillness and the thoughts come to the surface,
The war for your soul,
The emotions,
The energy,
The spirit,
Your being.
Beginning to take captive the thoughts one by one as you see them come.
As you see the thoughts or maybe see the faces like floating bubbles in the air,
Begin to take your battle sword.
Pop,
Release,
Surrender,
Be still.
As they bubble up from the surface,
As the thoughts or the flow of tears begin to release,
See them go one by one.
As you begin to take captive these thoughts and notice the effect,
Allow yourself the space to reflect and let go.
See yourself as the powerful one,
The one who chooses what can stay and what you allow to let go.
You and God,
The God who sees you,
The God who knows you,
The God who loves you and wants you.
Together you speak to your thoughts with the truth of healing,
Restoration and renewal.
For no weapon formed against you shall prosper when your head,
Heart and hands are aligned with your Creator.
I invite you to breathe and to continue to rest in the space of stillness soaking up the goodness of healing,
Of surrendering,
Of seeing yourself from outside of yourself in a place of healing.
As you take captive your thoughts one by one,
Lay them at the altar of the one,
Your healer,
God.
