So what is ACT?
What is this?
A C T Acceptance Commitment Therapy,
But it's actually not said ACT.
It's said as the word act,
Not the letters.
So what is ACT?
Act is.
.
.
Getting more and more momentum because it is so accessible for people that are willing to work on themselves for people that are willing to have tools and strategies and learn some simple education about the human mind and behavior to help them stay moving forward in the direction of things that are important.
So it's one of the most researched,
Over a thousand,
What are called randomized control trials.
In psychology,
They're known as RCTs,
Right?
And across many,
Many different kinds of human struggle.
And the model of ACT sits upon a science known as contextual psychology,
Also known as contextual science.
And this model is very robust and has strong foundations,
Which is the science of the human mind and behavior.
An act is what sits on top and acts.
It's a model that we can bring into our lives,
Helping us stop.
Fighting our inner world?
Which is what we're conditioned to do.
Biting our thoughts,
Challenging our thoughts,
Pushing away on our thoughts,
Pushing away on our feelings,
Struggling with our feelings.
And as a result of that,
Doing things to try and escape ourselves,
Right?
Doing things that don't serve us,
Doing things that move us away from the type of person that we want to be,
Instead of towards the type of person that we want to be.
And in ACT these are known as.
.
.
Away moves or towards moves,
Acting away from the type of person I want to be or towards the type of person I want to be,
Away from my values or towards my values.
And what makes ACT very different to other therapies is there's a key focus on what is important for you.
What's important for you?
Because we tend to get a bit lost,
We tend to get a bit misaligned in life,
We tend to get so caught up in other things that are not actually that meaningful,
Like meaningless distractions for instance.
And it's so common in this modern world today.
So ACT actually helps us to get grounded and realign,
Giving us some simple tips and tools to do that.
Help us know what matters and move forward in that direction.
And giving us tools along the way to help us unhook from unhelpful thoughts.
And undesirable feelings that pull us away from who we want to be,
So we can unhook,
Make space for these normal human experiences,
Even though they might be uncomfortable and difficult,
And stay moving forward in the direction of what is important to you.
So in Act,
It's about.
We care about.
You.
We care about what you care about.
We want you to live a meaningful life.
And that's why ACT really stands out in many ways among other therapies.
Because of this absolute focus on and importance on the focus of values.
Values values what's important.
So basically moving forward in a direction that's important and having tips and tools to help us stay aligned and not do as many away moves that we might have been doing.
And as a result of that doing more towards moves,
Feeling more fulfilled.
And creating more upward spirals in our life.
Realistically as well,
May I add.
Realistically,
Instead of just like,
Oh,
This is going to be a bed of roses,
Life's going to be amazing.
Act is very raw,
Very real,
And it helps us authentically show up with ourselves.
So we can take those steps forward.
I hope this video has been helpful.
