Hello and welcome to an amazing night's sleep.
Thank you for being here for another in the series of bedtime tales,
Written by June B and narrated by me,
Ruben.
This evening we take a look at the rain and how amazing it is to dance in the rain and have a party.
Let's get into this.
Allow yourself to find your favorite sleeping position,
Making sure you are comfortable,
Allowing your eyes to relax,
Your muscles to relax and imagining that your body is melting into the bed.
Now let's get in touch with that familiar friend,
The companion that's always here for you.
You're breathing the rhythm of the breath,
Slowing down the heart rate and taking some time in connecting with the breath in this way.
The heart rate drops and the breathing itself nourishes your well-being.
Breathing the in-breath,
Noticing the out-breath,
Breathing in and watching this.
Breathing out and watching this.
The sound of your in-breath,
The sound of your out-breath,
The temperature of your in-breath,
The temperature of your out-breath,
The cool air as it comes in,
The warm air as it leaves.
Last time,
Breathing in and breathing out in preparation for our bedtime story,
Nice and comfortable.
Letting go of everything that happened today and allowing yourself to relax right here and now more and more as this story unfolds.
And if your mind wanders,
That's part and parcel of a wandering mind,
Bringing it back to the sound of my voice.
And if you wish,
You can use your breath as an anchor.
Slow and steady.
Let's go on this journey together.
So,
I heard a friend of mine talking about having a rain party.
I was wondering,
What on earth is that?
I've never heard of a rain party before.
So,
I decided to look into this and see what this fun sounding idea was all about.
Why not join me?
Let's go together.
Here we are,
And the heavens are predicted to open up.
And it sure does look like a lot of rain is on its way.
So,
This is how it works.
It rains,
And we all decide to go out and party.
Simple,
Right?
Firstly,
Did you know that a rain party is Mother Nature's water park?
Much cheaper than actually going to a water park,
And you can still wear a swimsuit.
OK,
Here it comes.
Here's the rain.
Can you hear it?
Can you feel it?
Can you really hear it?
Can you really feel it?
It's cold at first.
Well,
Not really cold.
More like wet.
I'm getting used to this wetness on my body.
The water is running all over my face,
Down my back,
And in a few short minutes,
I am going to be fully soaked.
The rain is not a problem.
Actually in this moment,
It is more fun than anything else.
It feels liberating to be in it right now.
Me and all my friends are here,
And we are ready for this fun event.
I can hear the music playing in the background,
And we are in my friend's garden,
On the paved part of it.
As a backup,
We have a small sheltered part of the garden.
If it starts to thunder,
Of course,
Nobody wants to be out in the thunder.
Also,
If it starts to rain too hard,
Then we can all slip under and shelter for a bit,
Until it eases up.
For now,
Though,
It is a nice amount of rain,
And we are all having so much fun.
Oh my,
Look at some of them doing the conga line.
I love the rain.
I used to love it so much when I was a child,
Splashing about in it without a care in the world,
Never wanting to come inside.
I loved being fully soaked all the way through,
And then hopping into a warm bath.
After the bath,
A delicious hot chocolate,
Before slipping into bed after being read a story.
If I was really lucky,
I may even get a little biscuit too.
A digestive biscuit.
They're the ones my mum always used to buy.
I actually looked forward to rainy days,
So I could go out and get wet.
Not a long time ago that was.
Then I became an adult,
And disliked the rain.
Having to commute on a daily basis,
And get everyday things done while getting soaked.
Not so much fun.
The worst thing is that light drizzle.
No matter how you angle your umbrella,
It always seems to get under it and soak you through.
How does that even work?
In the UK,
When it rains,
It seems to go on forever,
And drizzle,
Light drizzle,
Is a common form of the rain that we experience.
Now I am older,
I have fallen back in love with the rain,
And it feels really good.
I feel like I'm back home,
In touch with my inner child again,
And loving every minute of it.
As I said before,
It is so liberating to go out in the rain,
And just be.
Do you know that when you let go of everything that is worrying you,
And stand in the rain with no hang ups whatsoever,
It is the most freeing feeling you can have,
And a place where you can find total peace.
You let go to all of the resistance to what is going on around you.
Most situations we can't change,
So why struggle with them?
Allowing is the key to happiness.
Why doesn't everyone just stand up in the rain,
And let all their troubles wash away,
Like the way the rain is flowing its way along the path we are standing on?
It is almost magical how every ounce of stress is taken away with each drop of rain on my body.
I'm dancing now,
And the rain is gently massaging my body,
And softly dripping off my nose,
Like a tap when you try to turn off,
And it won't fully shut,
Because it needs a new washer.
This is how my worries are slowly melting away as well.
Can you hear that melody of the rain?
It is the symphony of the sky opening up for our pleasure.
A musical masterpiece of raindrops all falling at different times,
Composing a prelude to the bigger overture that has different parts.
Slower parts to this fascinating composition,
And then faster parts.
Can you hear the different parts to this masterpiece?
Better to be heard again,
Because each part is a once only recital of this amazing life giving substance we call the rain.
Lastly,
We must never forget that the sound of this amazing rain provides a total brain workout.
Which has shown that listening to rain sounds enters into people's brain,
Then the brain unconsciously relaxes and produces alpha waves,
Which are very close to the state of the brain when we sleep.
How awesome is that?
Listen to that sound now.
I'm not sure about you,
But I'm getting sleepy,
Even thinking about it.
So I'm ready to let go fully and surrender to sleep.
My brain is unconsciously relaxing.
It's happening automatically,
Producing alpha waves.
Your brain is doing the same.
Thanks for joining me tonight.
And as you slowly drift away,
Have yourself a great night's sleep.
And looking forward to being with you again for another in the series of bedtime tales with me,
Ruben,
And June B.
Good night.
