Details

The Ikaria Blue Zones Experience is an intimate, immersive retreat designed to slow you down to the rhythm of one of the world’s longest-living communities. Hosted alongside local Ikarian co-host Thea at her family inn, this is not a surface-level tour — it’s lived longevity in action. Our days unfold through simple, powerful rituals: walking mountain paths, cooking seasonal food with locals, sharing long late dinners, swimming in clear Aegean waters, and downshifting properly. Blue Zones principles are not taught in a classroom — they’re experienced through food, movement, connection, purpose and rest. Guided by mindfulness practices and grounded conversation, this retreat offers space to recalibrate your nervous system, reconnect to what matters, and explore what your “second act” can look like — with vitality and intention. Small group. Real conversations. Practical longevity you can actually take home.

Location

Nas, Greece

Nas is a small coastal village on the northwest tip of Ikaria, Greece, known for its wild natural beauty, relaxed atmosphere, and legendary sunsets. Once an ancient sanctuary dedicated to Artemis, the area still holds the ruins of the Temple of Artemis overlooking a dramatic gorge where a river meets the Aegean Sea. Nas Beach is famous for its golden sand, clear turquoise waters, and a free-spirited vibe that draws travelers seeking tranquility, yoga, and a connection to nature. With its rugged cliffs, traditional tavernas nearby, and slower pace of life typical of Ikaria, Nas feels peaceful, remote, and deeply restorative.

Thea's Inn is located in the picturesque village of Nas, known for its unique river valley, beach, and hiking trails. It is still run by my family today as it was when we first opened over twenty years ago – the new generation is growing, and I take pride in watching my sons get involved in running the restaurant. My husband, an accomplished organic farmer, still supplies the produce that is brought to the kitchen from our farm each morning to be cooked for the restaurant’s lunch and dinner. We are known for our traditional cuisine that is prepared in the same way it has been for generations, by our special resident cook, Athina, who introduced the Blue Zone team to many Ikarian recipes. Her story and many of her recipes, which were passed down through her family for generations, feature in the Blue Zone Solution cookbook. The restaurant terrace is one of the best spots on the island to enjoy a glass of wine at sunset overlooking the sea before dinner, as a perfect start to the evening. We also offer five simple and rustic rooms, all with ceramic tile floors, twin beds, a private bath, and a personal refrigerator in case you want to bring home fresh food, herbs, or fruits you may have foraged during a hike. Each room has a set of French doors that open to a private balcony overlooking the Aegean Sea.

Our home for the week is Thea’s Inn — a family-run guesthouse nestled in the hills of Ikaria, where life moves to the island’s natural rhythm. This is not a polished resort or luxury hotel. It’s authentic, warm, and deeply rooted in local life. Expect simple, comfortable rooms, sweeping views, home-cooked meals, and the kind of hospitality that feels personal rather than transactional. Staying here means stepping into real Ikarian living — waking to fresh mountain air, lingering over slow breakfasts, and gathering in shared spaces that invite conversation and connection. It’s intimate, unpretentious, and perfectly aligned with the Blue Zones way of life: community, simplicity, and heart.

Food in Ikaria is simple, seasonal and deeply connected to the land. Much of what we eat is grown within Thea’s family gardens or sourced locally from neighbouring farms — fresh vegetables, wild greens, legumes, olive oil, herbs and fruit picked close to home. The cuisine leans naturally toward plant-based dishes, as is traditional in Ikaria, though it is not exclusively vegetarian. Expect hearty stews, garden salads, slow-cooked beans, local cheeses, fresh bread, island wine and the occasional locally sourced meat or fish. Vegetarian diets are easily catered for. Vegan options may be more limited due to the traditional use of local cheeses and yoghurt, but we will always do our best within the rhythms of village life. Meals are shared, generous and often unhurried — long tables, conversation, laughter and the kind of nourishment that goes far beyond the plate.

Schedule

This is an immersive, lived experience of the Ikarian Blue Zones way of life — where longevity is not studied, but practiced daily. Throughout the week, we’ll share multiple hands-on cooking experiences using seasonal, locally grown produce — much of it sourced from Thea’s family gardens. You’ll learn traditional Ikarian dishes rooted in simplicity, flavour and nourishment. We’ll visit a local winery (yes, grape stomping included), explore neighbouring villages, walk mountain and coastal trails at the island’s natural pace, and soak in Ikaria’s renowned thermal healing pools. Expect guided nature walks, swims in the Aegean, long communal meals, and evenings shaped by conversation and connection. Mindfulness practices and grounded discussions are woven throughout, supporting you to slow down, recalibrate and reflect on how Blue Zones principles — food, movement, purpose, rest and community — can translate into your own life. There is intention, but not rigidity. Structure, without rush. The week is designed to immerse you in practical longevity — in a way that feels human, generous and entirely unforced.

"The retreat was the catalyst for a huge shift in consciousness which has radically transformed me. I have since found that my health, relationships, inner peace & overall confidence has shifted to a different level. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone on a personal journey to find their inner self."

Mandy, Australia

“With absolute gratitude I would like to say, Lisa put so much thought into this retreat, with collaborating with other amazing connections she met prior to our retreat helping to make our experience what it was. Magical and relaxing. What an absolutely magnificent time we had on this retreat to have been able to completely immerse, indulge and embrace ourselves in the Blue Zones lifestyle. Within creating the Blue Zones retreat Lisa included as much as she possibly could within the time we had, with also considering our down time to enjoy the beautiful environment we were in. We went through various mindfulness principles and also took part in meditations that were easy to follow with Lisas guidance and practiced gratitude. Lisa even considered the fact that we'd all travelled across the other side of the world and in result ensured that during the retreat we saw some of the sites of this beautiful part of the world we'd travelled too, which was an excellent addition along with the food and learnings. The retreat had a good balance of everything. Thank you so much for everything Lisa, I am so very grateful to have been part of this wonderful retreat.I highly recommend this retreat to everyone, especially those with an open mind to new experiences and different ways of thinking.
