Details

Need some fresh inspiration for your creative practice? This retreat weekend offers a full range of sensory experiences to help spark your imagination. Join us for mindful excursions into the late summer woods, guided experiments with different mediums to refine your instincts and broaden your methods of self-expression, a dreamy sound bath to open up new creative pathways, and meaningful human connection with fellow creators who want to tap into the joy of making things. We're gathering Labor Day Weekend for 4 days / 3 nights of hands-on art exploration, mindful forest walks, soothing sound baths, and easygoing connection with fellow creators. Creators of all skill levels are welcome! Whether you're an experienced artist who needs fresh inspiration and conversation, a total newbie who's never made art, or somewhere in between, you will find your people here. Every acivity is entirely optional! You can join us for any (or all) of the following: * Guided Art Sessions: Experiment with different mediums and techniques in a relaxed, judgment-free atmosphere. There's no right or wrong here, just play, exploration, and seeing what wants to emerge. * Nature-Inspired Art & Crafts: Take the forest inside by incorporating natural materials, autumn colors, and the landscape around you into your creative work. * Restorative Yoga with Essential Oils: Stretch and relax in restorative postures that relieve tension, while pleasant essential oils help you stay present in your body during the experience. * Guided Sensory Forest Bathing: A mindfully guided walk into the autumn woods. This sensory immersion practice helps you slow down, notice what's around you, and bring that awareness back into your creative work. * Sound Meditation with Live Instruments: Settle in on your back on a yoga mat and cushion, nestled underneath blankets, and let the healing sounds wash over you. Instead of words guiding you to meditate, you'll have sounds to bring you deeper into a restorative experience. You'll hear chimes, a gong, singing bowls, and other healing instruments played live. It's the perfect way to end a day of creating, wandering, and connecting. * Scenic Autumn Hike: We'll take the beautiful purple trail loop together which leads to the top of the property, pause for photos at the gazebo, and soak in the fall landscape together. Plus, yoga nidra, mindfulness and guided meditations, and lots of opportunities to connect with other creators. Share what you're working on, swap ideas, and discover new sources of inspiration. There's no pressure, just friendly creative conversation!

The second day invites participants to immerse themselves through morning yoga, a hands-on creative practices seminar, guided sensory forest bathing, and spacious free time balanced with nourishing meals, café treats, and an evening gong sound meditation. On the third day, the focus shifts to play and creative expression with yoga, an art seminar, a scenic hike, open art exploration using provided materials, and a cozy bonfire to close the evening. The final day centers on reflection and integration, featuring morning movement, guided forest art, time to unwind, and a closing circle after lunch to carry the experience forward.

Testimonials

info

I recently had the privilege of attending Books in the Wild, hosted by former educator (insert your preferred title here, as I wasn't sure if former educator was the best descriptor) Angela Watson, and it was nothing short of transformative. Angela has a rare gift for holding space in a way that feels both grounding and expansive. As educators, we are so accustomed to leading, fixing, organizing, and anticipating, and Angela gently invited us to set all of that down. She creates an environment where joy is intentional, mindfulness is practiced (not just discussed), and truth is welcomed. Her presence is calm but powerful. She speaks honestly about the realities of teaching (and life!) while helping educators reconnect to themselves beyond the role. Throughout the retreat, from guided reflection to forest walks to quiet reading time, Angela modeled what it means to live aligned with purpose and peace. She doesn’t just talk about slowing down and being present, she embodies it. I left feeling restored, seen, and deeply inspired, not only as an educator, but as a human being. If you ever have the opportunity to learn from Angela or attend one of her retreats, don't hesitate. It is a gift you will carry long after you leave.

As I arrived to the retreat, the sense of calm descended over me. I could feel the stress oozing away, and a quiet sense of contentment taking its place. Angela created a sense of belonging with a lot of small things: a sign in the foyer, a smile and a warm welcome at the arrival, a piece of chocolate here and there, communal meals, pauses in conversation for us to think and share. The activities were well thought through, and were placed strategically throughout the day so there was no draining engagement but a relaxed friendly atmosphere with lots of reading time, opportunities for walks and contemplation, and time to be with a group to build relationships, meet and make friends. In short, the weekend was precious, thanks to Angela.

The key to the success of the event, I believe, is the delightfulness, enthusiasm, and skill of the host. I think she was able to guide and motivate us to get the most from the weekend. I also really appreciated her relaxed attitude about participation.

The group had such an amazing dynamic, and I truly appreciated the thoughtful and steady space Angela Watson held for everyone. It was a uniquely beautiful experience, and I felt genuinely honored to be part of it. Angela brings such vibrant, caring energy to her work. I especially appreciated the way she shared her own struggles with the group — it was powerful and grounding. It reminded everyone that they are not alone and that none of us are perfect. It really is about showing up, applying the practices regularly, and allowing that consistency to deepen our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. It was all very beautiful.
