Jambo,
Little traveler.
Welcome to Safari and Soul.
This is Reshma.
I'm so glad that you're joining me today.
Today we're going to close our eyes and imagine that we're walking in the African savannah beside a big gentle elephant.
In Swahili,
We call an elephant tembo.
So sit comfortably.
See if you can cross your legs.
Maybe lie down.
And stretch your hands above your head if that feels nice.
And put them down again.
And gently close your eyes.
And take a deep breath in.
Breathing like an elephant and exhale.
Should we try that again?
Let's pretend that our nose is as big as an elephant's trunk.
So we're going to take a really long deep breath in.
And let's exhale like an elephant would.
Let's try that one more time,
Shall we?
Pretending we're like an elephant,
Inhaling in.
And exhaling out.
With your eyes still closed.
Let's count to five.
One.
Two.
Mmmmmmm.
Four.
Five.
With our eyes still closed,
Imagine.
.
.
In front of you is the African savannah and you're standing in grass and as you're standing on your left hand side comes gentle footsteps.
You turn to your left.
And you see a big giant gentle elephant with magnificent tasks.
Stop right next to you and look at you.
And you can see in this elephant's big beautiful eyes.
But they are so gentle.
And that they are safe.
And that you are safe because you are with them.
Let's give this elephant a name,
Shall we?
Her name.
Is Wendy.
And Wendy starts to slowly walk and you slowly walk.
And the grass.
Step by step.
Even though she's such a big animal.
She's walking silently.
And all you can hear is the swish,
Swish,
Swish,
Swish of the grass as she walks.
You walk together slowly.
The elephant always makes sure she's waiting for you.
We continue to relax slowly.
And you look at her and see how strong she is as you walk.
This elephant,
Wendy,
Is so strong.
And you are strong too.
You're standing next to her and you're not afraid.
The elephant always watches out for her friends and her family too.
She waits until all the other elephants have crossed the road.
And she always protects the really tiny babies.
She looks at you.
And once to you.
Do you also watch out for your friends and family?
She wants you to know that you are like her,
Strong and gentle.
And that you can do so much if you choose to.
You've been walking for a while and finally you stop.
Can you feel your feet on the ground?
You just walked next to a giant elephant and it means that you can move through the world bravely and calmly.
Let's take a deep breath in.
And the elephant this time is joining us.
Let's go in.
And exhale You,
My friend,
Are steady and strong.
Finally,
The elephant stops and her big head turns to you as she looks down at you.
She wants you to know that she's now going to take a different road and that you can stop here and rest.
And just before she goes,
She gives you a happy rumble.
A rumble to let you know that all is well,
And that you are well.
So say bye to Wendy the elephant.
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes.
Come back to this space.
And say thank you to the elephant who walked beside you.
And reminded you that you are strong.
Have a great day,
Little traveler.
Bye for now.
