Welcome,
Dear traveler,
To Safari and Soul.
Tonight,
We rest in the quiet and unique sounds of the African wilderness.
As you settle down,
Ready to rest,
And in a comfortable position,
Allow your body to settle fully into your bed.
Let the surface beneath you support your weight.
Let your bed support you like a cocoon.
It is perfectly fine to fall asleep during this meditation.
And as you settle down,
Take a slow breath in through your nose,
Filling your chest,
And gently release it through your mouth.
Exhale.
Again,
Inhale slowly,
And exhale softly.
Allow your shoulders to sink down.
Let your jaw unclench.
Let the muscles around your tired eyes soften.
Perhaps rub your palms together and put them over your eyes for a few seconds to provide some warmth.
Perhaps you feel like you need to stretch your hands above your head and stretch your feet in the opposite direction.
As you loosen from all the tightness of sitting at your desk all day,
Lie back in your bed,
Feel supported.
Lay your head on your pillow.
There is nowhere to go now.
Nothing to do.
Only rest.
Only deep,
Restorative sleep.
With your eyes closed,
Imagine that night has fallen across the savanna.
The wide land is mostly quiet.
Above you,
The sky stretches endlessly,
Deep and dark,
Filled with countless stars.
Can you see the constellations?
Some shooting stars travel across the horizon,
Reminding you how lucky you are to witness this.
Maybe take this moment and make a wish.
The air is cool and calm.
You feel like you need to wrap yourself tighter into your blanket.
Somewhere in the distance,
The soft sounds of the night begin to rise on the savanna.
A gentle breeze moves through tall grass.
The crickets sing steadily in the darkness.
Can you hear that hyena calling to its family?
The hoots to its mate,
Who responds.
As the wind rustles,
The pride of lions also call out.
To one another.
All these creatures are letting you know that they are present and that you are safe.
Everything around you is slowing.
And as the hyenas call and the lions call to each other,
The rest of the land is resting and you are resting with it.
With your eyes still closed,
Imagine that you are lying safely inside a quiet safari lodge or a canvas tent,
On a warm bed with a hot water bottle placed there specially for you.
Can you feel that warmth?
You are warm.
You are comfortable.
You are protected.
Outside,
The wilderness continues its quiet rhythm.
But here,
Everything is calm.
Your breath slows naturally.
Inhale slowly.
Exhale even longer.
With each breath out,
Allow your body to sink deeper into the mattress.
Heavier.
More relaxed.
If thoughts from the day appear,
Imagine gently placing them outside your door.
You do not need to solve anything tonight.
Today is complete and you have,
In this moment,
Your peace.
Allow your mind to follow the slow rhythm of the land.
Breathing softly,
Quietly.
As the stars remain steady above the plains,
The grasses whisper in the darkness.
Your body grows heavier.
Your mind grows quieter.
Sleep begins to arrive naturally.
As you feel that sleep embracing you,
You are safe.
Held by the quiet of the night.
Held by this ancient land.
Heading to dreamland.
Remember,
You may leave the wilderness,
But the inner wilderness never leaves you.
This is Safarian Soul.
Good night.
