Hello and welcome.
This is a New Year meditation for letting go and starting fresh.
Come into a comfortable seat and find a soft gaze in front of you or gently close your eyes.
Draw your awareness to your breath.
Take a full breath in through your nose and a steady breath out through your mouth.
And start to imagine that in front of you,
There is a closed door that leads into the new year.
Notice what it looks like,
How big it is,
What it's made out of.
Notice the shape of the doorknob.
And then draw your awareness to yourself as you stand in front of this door.
Notice everything that you are carrying with you.
Without judgment,
Take inventory of what you are holding in your arms,
In your mind,
In your body.
And start to imagine yourself setting it all down.
Not getting rid of it forever,
Just placing it on the ground at your side.
Notice the things that feel easier to set down.
And notice the things that feel more challenging to set down.
Once you have set everything,
Or as much as you can,
Down.
Imagine yourself opening the door in front of you without entering.
Notice how far you open it,
How quickly or slowly you open it.
And notice what you can see on the other side.
Look back at everything that you have set down.
And observe.
Notice what,
If anything,
You might truly need to bring with you into this new year.
Try not to think about it,
But just observe.
And if there is anything that you truly need to take with you through that door,
Pick it up again,
Taking only what you need.
And from here,
You get to decide.
You could stay right here for now,
For this moment,
Or step beyond the threshold into this new space.
And whichever choice you make,
Take a moment to observe what it feels like.
As you're ready,
Start to draw your awareness back to your breath.
Take a full breath in through your nose.
And out through your mouth.
You might wiggle your fingers and toes,
Roll out your shoulders,
Take a big stretch.
And if your eyes are closed,
Gently blink them open.
This is a reminder that as we start anew,
There are some things that may be better left behind.
Thank you for meditating with me today,
And Happy New Year.
