Prayer is like a phone call.
You can't see the other person,
But you know they're listening on the other side.
Just like any relationship,
The more you talk to God and the more you tend to your relationship,
The closer you become.
And if it's been a while since you've talked,
Or maybe even the first time,
It might feel a little awkward at first,
And that's okay.
Your relationship with God doesn't have to be the same one you might have known.
God doesn't have to be some judgmental father figure or or someone you can only talk to when you're in nice clothes.
Just as we all have a vast array of different relationship dynamics,
Whether that's friendships,
Siblings,
Parents,
Children,
Neighbors,
Co-workers,
You name it,
We have an infinite number of ways to connect with God.
Just as you might call your mom to share your worries,
Or your neighbor to borrow some salt,
We can call and connect with God in many different ways,
Maybe even all in the same day.
Play around with your prayers.
Pretend God is your friend.
Tell her all the funny parts of your day or cry about your relationship dramas.
Pretend God is your co-worker.
Strategize with him about your next steps or offload some of the stress you're feeling.
Have God be your lover.
Sweet talk Mother Nature,
Telling her how beautiful she is while you're taking your walk.
Allow God to be your therapist.
Tell him all of your darkest secrets,
Fears,
Tensions,
You name it.
Safe in the knowledge that God can take it.
God can hold you.
Try making your prayers incredibly casual,
As if you're talking to your best friend or sibling or someone you're completely comfortable around.
Say what's up.
Don't make it formal or unreachable like you're speaking to the Queen.
Make it personal.
And don't be afraid to offend.
You can cry to God.
Give all your pain to God.
God wants to hold you.
God is available any second of any minute.
Prayer is your time to talk.
Meditation is your time to listen.
