This is a gentle, simple poem by Yeats, in which the poet offers their most precious possession to the listener. The metre and structure are very stripped-back, allowing the message and sentiment to come through with immediate clarity.

Had I the heavens embroidered cloths,

Enroart with golden and silver light,

The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half-light,

I would spread the cloths under your feet,

But I,

Being poor,

Have only my dreams.

I have spread my dreams under your feet,

Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Profoundly effective voice for this poem. Thank you. Please consider a poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins, Pied Beauty. I hope I've rememberd this correctly. Peace
