This poem by Robert Herrick focuses on the beauty in nature and in personal love but also suggests that these things will pass and that we should enjoy them as fully as possible while we are able to. Whether it is joyful or wistful is very much up to the listener to decide.

Gath-e rosebuds while ye may,

All time is still a-flying,

And this same flower that blooms to-day,

To-morrow may be dying.

That glorious lamp of heaven,

The sun,

The higher he's a-getting,

The sooner will his race be run,

And nearer he is to setting.

That age is best,

Which is the first,

When youth and blood are warmer,

But being spent the worse and worst times Still succeed the former.

Then be not coy,

But use your time,

And while ye may,

Go marry,

For having lost but once your prime,

You may for ever tarry.
