This is a meditation for all the artistic types who feel cut off from their gifts. It is a meditation that I gave as part of workshop earlier this year. As an artist, I have felt the rushes of inspiration and then the barren times which I have heard many other artists speak of, but what I have discovered is that the Awen (or inspiration) wants to come to you. You don’t have to wait for the rushing waterfall of ideas like so much rain after a drought. You need only open yourself to the divine.

Hi everyone.

It's my belief that everyone is an artist in some way.

Whether it's cooking,

Visual or musical arts,

Dance,

Knitting,

Photography,

Gardening,

Home reno,

Or rebuilding a car.

Whatever it is that you do,

Most things have a creative component.

I think art is at the very heart of human expression and how we connect with the Earth and the Divine.

Mother Earth,

The universe,

God,

Goddess,

Whichever term you use is constantly creating and I believe that they connect with us every time we flex our creative muscles.

And I think that they commune with us and inspire us.

And if we're open to it,

There's an opportunity to co-create with them in those moments.

As an artist,

I have felt the rushes of inspiration and in the barren times which I've heard many other writers and artists speak of.

But what I've discovered is that the Ah-Wen,

Welsh for inspiration,

Wants to come to you.

You don't have to wait for the rushing waterfall of ideas like so much rain after a drought.

You need only to open yourself to the Divine.

So let's invite the Ah-Wen together now.

Find a comfortable position and close your eyes.

And begin to connect with your breath.

You don't need to change it in any way.

Just notice your inhalations and your exhalations,

Letting the mind become still.

Now imagine that you are in a water temple.

The rush of water is like water greets your ears.

You see waterfalls cascading down the sides of the circular temple walls,

Filling a large pool at its center.

At the pool's edge,

Four goddesses beckon you.

You walk towards them,

Feeling more calm and serene with every step,

Their holy energy radiating out towards you.

When you reach the water's edge,

You see many mesmerizing shades of blue swirling within.

The goddesses invite you to step in.

When you do,

You feel tranquility spread throughout your whole body and soul.

Danu steps forward first,

Robed in the waters of the Irish Sea,

And she pours a chalice of water over your head,

Whispering,

May you be cleansed of any negative thoughts surrounding your creativity.

You feel those negative thoughts melt from your mind.

Now Sav comes forward with her regal horns and pours her chalice of cool forest springs over your brow.

She whispers,

May you be cleansed of expectation around your heart that it must look,

Sound,

Or be a certain way.

You let go of those expectations and feel them melt from your mind.

Next,

Sarah Swati steps forward in her rainbow of silks to pour a chalice of water over you from her lotus pond and whispers,

May you realize your true creative abundance.

You feel yourself fill up brimming with true creative abundance.

Finally,

Isha comes forward in her beautiful feathered headdress,

Hands raised up to the sky.

She calls to the heavens and they open for her and refreshing rain falls on you from an opening in the roof just above the pool.

She raises her voice above the rain.

May you be filled with new ideas and inspiration.

You hold your hands up,

Accepting her blessing and feel yourself fill up with inspiration and feel the seeds of new ideas germinate within your mind.

The goddesses also raise their hands towards the heavens and begin to chant.

You raise your voice with theirs.

Ahh-ooh-ahh Ahh-ooh-ahh Ahh-ooh-ahh Ahh-ooh-ahh You feel inspiration and creativity flowing throughout your body,

Mind and spirit.

You thank the goddesses for their gifts and slowly the temple fades from view.

As it does,

You notice that their gifts have not faded,

So you whisper another word of thanks.

You slowly settle back into your body and begin to notice your breath again.

Feel the temperature of the air on your skin around you and wiggle your fingers and toes and open your eyes if you haven't already.

May your life be filled with divine creativity and break blessings.
