How To Regulate Emotions With Your Breath
Are you aware of what your breath is doing to your emotions right now? Your breath is always doing one of two things, and most of us aren't aware of which one. In this short video, Olivia breaks down the two-lever model so you can regulate your emotions in any moment, no matter how challenging... a hard conversation, a high-stakes call, or a day that feels like it's getting away from you.

One of the most powerful tools in your toolbox is your breath and one of the things that we always need to remember is that our breath is only ever doing one of two things.
It's either creating heat,
Speed,
Energy or it's creating coolness,
Calmness,
Ease.
And so in any given moment you have this tool that you can accelerate and create energy or you can slow down and create a more sense of coolness and calmness in your life.
And in a stressful situation what we end up doing is we end up either holding our breath or we start to breathe from our chest or we can speed up our breath.
When we start to do that we start to trigger anxiety,
We start to trigger a sense of fear,
A sense of uncertainty because we're telling our body this is stressful,
I'm going to hide,
This is a bad thing that's happening,
We need to run.
And so in those moments what you want to do is actually slow your breath down.
You want to breathe from your belly and you want to breathe as slow as possible.
So when you're on a call with someone that is feeling very stressful,
When you're about to do a presentation,
When you're having a conversation with your spouse,
With a loved one that is getting very difficult,
This is when you want to breathe from your belly.
You want to inhale slowly and exhale slowly.
You can allow your exhale to be slower than your inhale and you can begin to slow down time.
And this allows you to think more clearly and get way more into the present moment.
So just remember if you're wanting to feel excited,
You're trying to feel invigorated,
Speed your breath up,
Right?
We breathe quickly when we're excited.
But if you're going through a stressful situation,
Slow your breath down and start to notice how when you pull on these levers on a daily basis,
You can have way more control of how you're feeling and the reactions that you have,
The emotions that you are exuding in the world,
And then you simply step into the version of you that you are desiring to create in any given moment.
And so with that,
Taking a deep inhale in from your nose,
Holding,
And exhaling slowly through your mouth.
