
Meditation for Addiction Recovery
A guided journey to witness, accept and transform our addictions, chemical or emotional. By using the breath, and welcoming in love and support in the form of a golden light, we can re-program our brains to allow us the space to form new positive patterns of behaviour. By breathing out a black smoke at the same time, we allow the energies of our addictions and negative patterns to be released and leave us in a loving and long lasting way.

Hello and welcome to this meditation.
Today we will be exploring addiction and I hope to be able to support you to support yourselves in your own road to recovery.
Any addiction,
Grand or small,
Is just a behaviour,
A set of pathways,
Of energy,
The motions of which we may be conscious of,
Yet still we find ourselves falling into them again and again.
From my own personal experience with addiction,
I found it easiest to reset myself when I was connected to the reason why I wanted to change my behaviour.
This I usually did with self love and of course sometimes that's a bit of a concept rather than a feeling.
To get back to the feeling,
That feeling of why,
The reasons behind why you want to change,
Is what I hope to do together today.
So if you're sitting comfortably or lying down,
I'd just like to start with the breath.
So we're breathing in and breathing out.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Now whether it's your feet on the floor or your bum or your back that is rested,
Just bring your mind to this area.
Feel the pressure and support that is given to you as whatever surface you are on is pushing up against you and supporting your weight.
Feel that area in your body and become very aware of your physical self,
Your presence as you sit or lay still and calm,
Aware of where you are right now.
Still breathing in and breathing out.
Sinking into your own natural tide,
Just like the ocean laps the shore,
Seemingly with no effort,
Our breath rises and falls again.
And as our guide on this journey,
Our anchor,
Distill the mind and connect to and witness the feelings that we have inside.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Now I just welcome you to imagine a golden light coming to you.
And on the in-breath,
We're going to allow this golden nourishing light to come in with our breath into our bodies.
So we're going to breathe it in,
Feeling its warmth and its glow as it comes in through our mouth or our nose.
And it's going to go up our neck,
Through the top of our spine and into our brain.
So still breathing in,
Feeling that golden light come into us and enter into our heads like a light bulb.
Nourishing and untangling all of those connections that we relate to whatever we're addicted to.
Just allowing that golden light as we breathe in to calm and soothe all of those impulses in our brains,
In our control center.
Still breathing in this golden light and feeling that pressure release and drop inside your head as your thoughts and desires quiet and soothe and calm.
Still breathing in that golden light to your head and your brain and allowing it to reset all of those connections.
And as this happens and as is the way,
This golden light and calmness in your brain is sent forth to communicate with all the rest of your body.
So as you breathe in this golden light into your brain,
All those messages of calm and peace are sent down your spine to your shoulders and your back and your arms and your hands and your fingers,
To your back and your chest,
To your stomach,
To your hips and your thighs and your knees and your legs and your ankles and your toes.
And just calmly and gently restoring you,
Giving you peace,
Knowing and feeling that you are all you need right now to feel this feeling.
So as we breathe this golden light in to our brains and allow it to flow in all of its messages and communication to the rest of our bodies,
Feeling nice and calm,
We're going to bring our attention to the out-breath.
So as we breathe in that golden light is coming in and nourishing us and now as we breathe out,
I just want you to take all of that resistance,
That tension,
That longing and that energy base of addiction to be released as a thick dark smoke,
A mist that will leave you and go back,
Back into the universe,
Back to the soil in its own natural state to nourish the earth that we live on.
So breathing in that golden light that nourishes and breathing out and releasing that tension and stickiness,
Setting up a cycle within ourselves where we're breathing in,
That which nourishes us and resets us and breathing out and releasing that which does not serve us and needs to leave.
Breathing in and breathing out.
Now I'm just going to sign the bow and just know that you're protected,
Loved and able to do this now for yourself just for five minutes,
Coming back to the breath to keep you steady.

So just continuing to breathe in that golden light and really release that smoke,
That fog when you breathe out.

So it is important to remember that all we're doing here is helping the body,
The mind and the soul reset and remember your natural state.
Each moment in your road to recovery,
Remember that.
That you're simply shedding things which you've acquired and taken on.
Although it requires work and effort,
It is simply taking layers off.
Not acquiring a new mindset or a new logic,
But reminding and remembering your body,
Your mind and your soul that your natural state is one of health,
Abundance and love.
Before we end,
Just welcome you to give some thanks to yourself.
It really is so important what you're doing,
Not just for you,
Not just for your loved ones,
But for the earth and every being on it.
When you return to your natural state,
You are creatively powerful.
Your life is your own again and you can bring love back into yourself and into the world.
And for that you have my thanks and amazement too.
Now just as I sing the last sound of the bowl,
Just let the sound wash over you and resonate and ring within your body and allow all that we have done today to take hold,
To grow into your physical being so that you may walk tall,
Proud and with a sense of knowing that you are the creator of your own future.
