Take a comfortable seat,
Maybe on a chair,
Or maybe on a cushion on the floor,
And allow your spine to be straight and tall.
And simply become aware of the feeling of sitting,
The sense of gravity,
And any feelings of weight or tension in the body.
Just let the body articulate the space of conscious awareness.
Whatever you notice is proving the fact of consciousness.
Let everything appear in its own place.
Just as it is.
You don't need to point your attention at anything in particular right now.
See if you can rest in the spaciousness of awareness itself.
See if you can rest in the spaciousness of awareness itself.
And,
If there is any feeling tone on your mind at this moment,
Just notice that.
Is there any particular mood present?
Perhaps you are restless,
Or peaceful,
Or happy,
Or maybe sad.
Notice if there is any emotional colour to consciousness.
And,
The moment you notice that you have been captured by thought,
Look at the thought itself as another appearance in consciousness.
Whether it's a sensation in the body,
Or a sound,
Or a thought,
I want you to view each appearance as a modification of consciousness.
Everything,
In some sense,
Is made out of consciousness,
As a matter of experience.
Everything you notice is like a wave in the ocean,
Inseparable from the water.
To speak of water without waves,
Or waves without water,
Is to ignore the actual character of what is happening.
Everything that appears,
By virtue of it appearing,
Is a kind of wave upon the surface of consciousness.
Use this as an image,
And then let go of it.
See if you can rest as this open space of consciousness for a couple of minutes.
See if you can rest as this open space of consciousness for a couple of minutes.
See if you can rest as this open space of consciousness for a couple of minutes.
See if you can rest as this open space of consciousness for a couple of minutes.
See if you can rest as this open space of consciousness for a couple of minutes.
Now,
To finish this session,
Pay close attention to each breath.
See if you can narrow down your attention as much as possible.
Focus exclusively on the breath for a few moments.
See if you can relax.
And,
When you feel comfortable,
You may open your eyes.
