Loneliness can feel so isolating.
It can be such a heavy emotion to bear.
Sometimes we're lonely for a certain person or relationship,
A place,
An animal,
A certain time in our lives,
Or for a memory or even a thing that we may miss.
And sometimes we're just lonely,
Longing for something unknown,
An unknown love or an unknown comfort.
If you're feeling lonely today,
Your body in its infinite wisdom has led you here to this track,
To my voice,
To these exact words.
I want you to find a comfortable seated or lying down position.
Let your whole body relax from the crown of your head down to the tips of your toes.
We're going to settle into this posture with three deep breaths.
On my mark,
We'll breathe in for two and breathe out for a count of four and we'll do that three times.
Breathe in,
Two,
Breathe out,
Two,
Three,
Four,
And in,
Two,
Out,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Last time,
Breathe in for two and release,
Two,
Three,
Four.
As you bring your breath back to its normal rhythm,
I want to remind you that if you feel the need to shed a tear or let out an emotion during this meditation,
Please allow that release.
Your body knows how to take care of your emotional burdens.
Allow a release if that's what your body needs.
It's just you and me here,
So you are safe and it's okay to be vulnerable in this space.
To begin this meditation,
I want you to know that you are loved and you are not alone.
In this exact moment,
I am with you.
I don't know you,
But I love you.
You are an amazing person for taking care of yourself.
You are worthy of love.
It doesn't matter who you are,
You are worthy of love.
We tend to let loneliness control us and trick us into believing that we're not loved or we're not worthy of love or that we're all alone.
You may be alone in a moment in your thoughts,
But you're never really all alone.
Somebody,
Somewhere,
Is expressing their love for you right now.
I'm going to walk you through a list slowly so that you have time to really pull these people and memories out of storage and be reacquainted with them.
Later,
We'll pick one or two of our favorites and we'll meditate on these for a longer time.
So who is loving you and thinking of you and spiritually with you right now?
Besides me,
Of course.
Who is with you in this moment of loneliness?
Is it a childhood friend?
Someone with whom you've laughed over silly things,
Someone you've shared secrets with,
Someone who knows a part of you that other people don't know?
Is it a mother,
A mother figure,
A father or a father figure?
Could it be a cousin,
An aunt,
An uncle?
Perhaps a pet,
One of your children,
A grandmother or grandfather,
A grandmother or grandfather.
How about a brother or a sister?
Maybe it's somebody who was your neighbor.
Maybe it's somebody who is your neighbor.
Maybe it's a home that you loved and felt so comfortable in.
It could be someone at church,
Someone from the gym,
Someone who sees your face in the office or at the grocery store.
You never know who's thinking of you at any given moment.
Maybe an old professor is thinking of you right now.
How about someone you knew decades ago?
Or someone with whom you've lost touch?
Maybe it's an old flame or a person you met for a fleeting moment on a vacation or some kind of trip.
Could be an old roommate or a favorite vacation spot.
Maybe it's God.
How about a college friend or somebody who has passed away?
Maybe right now you need to think of a time in your life when everything seemed perfect.
Somebody right now is thinking of you and sending you love.
Which item from the list made you smile?
I want you to open your heart right now at this moment and allow the love and company and comfort of this person or place or time to be with you right now.
Invoke the presence of him or her or it.
And I'll give you a moment now just to be with this presence,
With this person or place or thing or memory.
And this is your chance to spend time with this presence.
I'll come back to you in a moment or two.
I want to welcome you back.
I hope you had a very comforting and peaceful time emotionally,
Spiritually,
And mentally hanging out with whatever it was that you invoked during our exercise.
Whenever you have a moment of loneliness,
I hope you will use this exercise to remind yourself that you're never really alone and somebody somewhere is loving on you.
They're thinking about you.
They're having fond thoughts and memories of you just the way that you think of people who you've known in your past,
People who you know now,
People who have passed away.
Somebody somewhere is thinking of you just like that.
And one of the most beautiful things,
One of the greatest things about our incredible minds,
Is that we can invoke those memories and those people whenever we need to.
I hope that this time together has brought you comfort and peace.
And just remember,
I love you and I am thinking of you and you are not alone.
You'll hear a chime when we reach the end of this meditation.
Thank you so much for spending your time with me today.
I hope that we'll meet again.
May God bless you and keep you.
