So let's begin by sitting quietly for just a moment or two,
Giving both mind and body,
Providing mind,
Body an opportunity to slow down ever so slightly.
And then let's give a little bit of attention to posture.
Just acknowledge the ground underneath.
If you're sitting,
This will be most evident.
Beneath your feet,
Beneath your seat.
And just let yourself settle into this ground,
This presence,
And let your body naturally adjust,
Naturally respond to this settling.
And one thing we'll sometimes notice as we settle in is a kind of uplifting energy rising from the earth and animating the spine,
And just let this uplift elongate the spine through the torso,
Through the neck,
Through the head,
And again allow the body to naturally adjust and naturally respond.
And then gently move the torso left to right,
Feeling for a kind of midpoint where you're able to just settle in and the downward flow of gravity is able to just pour through us and let the body adjust.
And then do something similar from front to back,
Gentle movements front to back,
Settling into the midpoint,
Letting gravity pour through and letting the body adjust.
And let's turn our attention to where our body is enjoying contact with the earth underneath.
Turn our attention to where our body is enjoying contact with the ground underneath.
And again,
Those of us who are sitting,
The most apparent areas are likely going to be the feet and the seat area.
So just turn your attention and sense these areas of contact.
Turn your attention and let these areas of contact become more part of your conscious awareness.
And then let these areas just soften,
Let the soles of the feet soften,
Let the seat area soften,
And just surrender into the presence and support that is forever waiting underneath us.
So we turn our attention,
We sense these areas of contact,
We let these areas soften,
We surrender or settle into them,
And then let the presence of the earth and how this shows up for each of us will vary from person to person,
From session to session.
But let the presence of the earth,
The steadiness and or the stillness,
The groundedness and or the rootedness,
The vastness of the earth,
Let the presence of the earth begin to percolate into your body.
So we turn our attention toward these areas of contact and we sense them,
We soften them,
We surrender into them,
And then allow our heightened and more intimate relationship with the ground underneath us,
With the earth.
We let this percolate in through the feet,
Through the legs,
Through the pelvis,
The torso,
The arms,
The neck,
The head.
Let the qualities of the earth,
Whatever these might be for us in this particular session,
In this particular moment,
Let these qualities become more and more apparent within our embodied experience.
And it becomes more and more apparent that they are,
In fact,
Our embodied experience.
Sense and soften,
Surrender and percolate.
And in so doing,
Let it become more and more apparent that the qualities of the earth are actually aspects of our embodied lives.
And as we move toward the end of this short practice session,
Let your attention rest in the fullness of your embodied experience.
Just let your attention rest in the fullness of this embodied moment.
And let any sense of efforting begin to loosen and unwind,
Allowing your attention and opportunity to settle into what remains when efforting eases to the background,
Allowing yourself an opportunity to very naturally come full circle and return to the simple act of sitting quietly for a moment or two,
And affirming that this short time together will somehow bring benefit into this world,
Benefit to ourselves,
Benefit to others,
Benefit to all.
It is as follows.
