What does love feel like? What does kindness feel like? What does metta - loving kindness - feel like? This simple meditation offers these questions from a somatic level: how does it feel in the body to love and be loved? The more we practice embodying these feelings, the more we move through the world naturally overflowing with the metta needed to heal the world. May we all be at peace.

Hello friends,

This is Morgan with Splendid Yoga and today we're going to learn how to embody the feelings that feel really good.

So if you can lay down with a pillow under your knees so that you feel fully supported and comfortable and allow your body to settle down layer by layer,

Feel gravity pulling you deeper and deeper into your support.

Notice how the breath shifts itself around as the body relaxes deeper and deeper into this comfortable position.

It just gets more comfortable.

Allow your body to relax into this effortlessness.

Now tell me where are you still holding on to effort in your body?

Can you relax your face,

Especially your jaw?

You might need to move it around to find a place that feels a bit more effortless.

And your lips,

Can you relax the corners of your lips,

Your eyebrows and forehead?

Can you let your face find that neutral position?

And your shoulders,

Relax your shoulders,

The entire circumference,

The front,

The back,

The top.

Allow the entire shoulder girdle to unclench.

Take another few moments here,

Check into any other parts of your body where you're working just a little too hard,

Just for right now.

Ask everything to relax.

Now ask your body,

What does love feel like?

Notice how the body responds.

Where in your body do you feel love?

When you're giving it,

When you're receiving it.

Notice the thoughts that arise,

The stories.

Come back to the body,

Completely relaxed,

Feeling loving and loved.

Allow that feeling to exist in the background.

Ask your body,

What does kindness feel like?

Where do you feel kindness when someone is kind to you?

Where do you feel kindness when you are kind to someone else?

Allow your body to feel that,

That kindness.

Where do you feel kindness when someone is kind to you?

Now we'll put those two things together into loving kindness or metta what does loving kindness feel like?

It's a question without any answer or more accurately it's a question with infinite answers just notice what comes up if it's a feeling,

Thoughts,

Words,

Memories,

Hopes,

Dreams what does loving kindness,

Metta,

Feel like?

The feeling of loving kindness is your birthright the way to achieve sustainable metta,

You just did it,

You practice by yourself so that when you go out into the world you can share that feeling of loving kindness,

Of compassion,

Of wanting everyone to feel safe and secure,

Well cared for,

Nurtured and just wanting that for everyone is enough take your metta with you namaste you

Wow, this is really lovely. It worked well for me to reflect on what love and kindness feel like, and then to put them together, as the guidance requests. I felt reassured by hearing you say that these questions have no obvious answers, but they are certainly worth reflecting on through regular practice. Thanks very much for this lovely food for thought.
