Hi,

Welcome back.

For this experience,

Please get yourself some water,

Coffee,

Tea,

Juice,

A beverage of your choice,

And then join me.

Get comfortable either seated or standing.

I often have a drink nearby or in hand and decided that this is a nice way for me to build in an extra dose of coming into presence and wanted to share it with you.

Hold your beverage,

Hold the container,

And allow yourself to notice the container that your beverage is in.

Is it a cup or a mug or a glass or a thermos or a plastic bottle?

Notice it.

And notice how your hands feel on or around it.

Where are you holding it?

Are you holding it at the bottom?

Are your hands wrapped around the middle or is there a handle?

And what's the temperature?

The temperature inside,

Is it cold or cool or warm or hot?

And can you feel the temperature on the outside of the container?

Notice the weight of the container.

Is it full?

Is it heavy?

Is it light?

And then notice if this feels pleasant,

If you feel neutral,

Paying attention to these inquiries that I'm posing.

Does this experience seem silly or unnecessary?

Just bring awareness to what's happening.

And then either with eyes open or behind closed eyes,

Notice the drink,

The beverage,

The color,

The amount of liquid that you put into it or that came with it.

Can you see it or do you have a sense of it?

And what position are you holding it in?

And now bring it up towards your face.

And does it have a scent?

Is there a smell?

Is it something that's familiar and pleasing?

And then take a drink.

You can take a sip or a gulp or a medium-sized drink and notice what it's like as it touches your lips and enters into your mouth and moves down your throat.

Did you taste it?

Did it go in so quickly that you'd like to try it again?

There's no wrong way to do it,

But can you be with this experience?

The smell,

The feeling,

The taste?

Would you like to have more?

And just notice what's happening.

Coming into presence,

Being mindful,

Meaning paying attention on purpose to what I'm doing.

I know that I'm drinking a lot of water and tea throughout my day and if I can have this imprint in my body,

In my hands,

With my breath,

This is a practice that I can build into many days and into my life because I'm almost always with a beverage at home,

At work,

Out in public,

Anywhere that I am,

I can come into presence with my drink.

And if you feel ready,

You can place the beverage container down and notice what that was like.
