Find a comfortable position,
Either sitting or lying down,
And allow your body to settle.
When you're ready,
Gently close your eyes or lower your gaze and focus on a single spot.
Begin by focusing on your breath,
Becoming aware of your natural rhythm,
Breathing in and breathing out.
Let your breath move freely,
Not trying to change it in any way.
Feel your breath in your body,
Expanding on your in-breath and relaxing on your out-breath.
Let's stay there for a moment.
Let your awareness shift to your body,
Noticing any sensations you can feel.
Any areas of warmth or coolness,
Tingling or numbness.
You might notice areas of tension,
Discomfort or pain.
Gently acknowledge them,
Allowing them to be,
And move your awareness on.
Now bring your attention up to your mind.
Notice whether your mind is clear or foggy,
Loud or quiet,
Busy or settled.
No judgement,
Just becoming aware.
And similarly,
Bring your awareness to your emotions.
Gently becoming aware of any feelings or emotions coming up for you in this moment.
Gain no judgement,
No analysis,
Just acknowledge and accept what's there.
It might be one particular emotion,
Several emotions or the absence of emotion.
I invite you now to bring to mind something you feel ready to let go of.
It could be something physical,
Mental or emotional.
A habit or routine that's no longer serving you.
An unhelpful thought or belief stuck in your mind,
Holding you back.
Perhaps it's a difficult memory you keep replaying in your mind.
Or it could be an emotion that's lingering and is no longer supporting you.
There's no need to overthink it.
Whatever has come up for you,
Allow that to be enough.
As you hold it in your mind,
Notice if any particular thoughts or feelings accompany it.
Notice if it feels close or far away.
Is it something you see in your mind's eye?
Or is it something you have more of a feeling or a sense of?
Can you imagine what it would look like to let go a little bit?
What would it feel like in your body,
Your mind,
Your heart,
To let go?
Can you see yourself letting go?
Allowing it to move a bit further away?
Try to see or feel it moving further away again.
Gradually growing more and more distant.
Become aware of any subtle changes in your thoughts,
Feelings or sensations as it becomes distant.
With each out breath,
Release it a little bit more,
Seeing it move further and further away into the distance.
Let's stay here for a moment.
If your mind wanders,
That's okay.
Just gently bring it back to that sense of letting go a little more with each exhale.
When you're ready,
Bring your awareness back to your body.
Feel your breath in your body.
Your connection with the surface beneath you,
Supporting you.
Begin to invite some movement into the body.
Perhaps stretch a little,
Move your fingers or toes,
Circle your wrists or ankles.
When you feel ready,
You can open your eyes.
