Welcome friends.

How was your day?

I'm happy you're here this evening and I hope you're climbing into your bed and preparing yourself for a good night's rest.

Snuggle up.

Get comfy.

Are you extra comfy?

Are your sheets just right?

Now tense up your body.

Really make a fist.

Cleanse up your face.

Now let it all go and close your eyes.

Let us begin.

Once upon a time in a kingdom far away there lived two sisters Ella and Valerie.

Ella and Valerie weren't your average five and eight year olds.

They were special.

Magically special.

You see these two little girls shared the rare gift of magic given to them by their magical parents.

What kind of magic you ask?

Well all kinds really.

Spells,

Potions,

Being invisible,

Flying,

And of course turning people into frogs and stuff.

Which they never did because Ella and Valerie were good-hearted magician children and knew that their powers as mama and daddy explained could help so many people if they use them for good.

Which sounds so great but all of this came with one big problem.

They weren't allowed to share their secret with anyone.

Your friends,

Family,

Teachers,

Nobody.

They had been warned that should anyone discover their secret they would all be scooped up by the magical authorities and stripped of their magical powers.

It was such a scary thought and one that often kept the girls awake at night.

On this particular night both girls were laying in bed whispering about their day and what all had happened.

Do you think mama and daddy suspect anything?

Asked Valerie to her big sister Ella.

No I really don't.

I think if they thought we were using our magic outside the house they would definitely say something and they haven't said a word.

I really do think we're safe for now Ella said.

Both girls got very quiet lost in their own thoughts.

What a day it had been.

It all started when Ella and Valerie were picking up some flowers for their mama at the farmers market near their home.

It was a bright and sunny day and there were birds flying overhead.

If you take a breath in you can smell the scents of fresh cut grass and baking bread.

Can you smell it?

As Ella and Valerie walked through the farmers market in search of the perfect flowers for mama for her upcoming birthday Ella spotted a small box behind a trash can.

Most people would assume it was trash but to Ella it was a portal to another world.

You see Ella was a gifted artist and everywhere she looked she was searching for a canvas.

A medium to showcase her art.

What's quite unique about Ella's art is her magical ability to bring her art to life.

That's right she can draw or paint a scene and with the quick touch of her index finger on the tip of her nose poof whatever she drew appears in front of you.

It's an amazing talent and can be very fun but the girls had gotten themselves in trouble with it many times.

Mama and daddy warned Ella that she was not allowed to draw outside the fences of their cottage.

She found this restriction very hard because Ella just loved to draw.

She loved to draw pictures of people,

She enjoyed drawing elaborate scenes and she especially loved drawing animals.

Her favorite animal was the elephant.

Ella loved elephants.

In fact she had a small baby elephant that lived in her backyard.

One she had drawn many times and redone and then finally brought to life.

She lives way back at the back by daddy's workshop in a small mini cottage that Ella had designed drew and then brought to life just for her elephant.

Ella's elephants name was Henderson.

Henderson really was great.

Even mom and daddy now loved him and treated him like a part of the family but the deal was Ella was allowed one elephant.

That was it.

No more.

Daddy said he had no intentions of running a zoo and that any more than Henderson and we would draw the attention of the neighbors.

So Ella obeyed the rules even though she believed Henderson wanted some elephant friends or family.

Ella reached for the box and said look Val a good clean box.

It'll be perfect for some chalk art.

Mama just bought me that new box of chalk and I've been looking for a way to use it without my art washing away.

Ella grabbed the box and they started back through the farmers market.

Once they had the flowers and were heading to the exit of the park Valerie heard a soft faint whimper.

She looked around and behind a large bench and another trash can set a small white kitten.

The kitten looked very afraid and as Valerie approached the kitten it closed its eyes as if it were bracing for the worst.

Now the way Ella loved elephants Valerie loved cats.

She had wished and wished and wanted for Ella to draw her a cat and bring it to life for as long as she could remember but daddy was allergic to cats.

It was a real bummer.

Valerie reached down to softly pet the cat.

It's okay little friend I won't hurt you I only want to help.

Are you lost?

Do you have family nearby?

Oh Ella just look at it.

Ella came over and knelt down to the kitten.

She reached out her hand and gently touched its head.

The kitten began to stand and then started walking towards the girls.

Oh good said Valerie it's not hurt just likely hungry and scared.

Let's take it home and give it some food.

We'll go through the back way into the backyard and daddy will never know.

Oh Val I don't think that's a good idea.

Henderson is back there and what if he steps on the kitten by mistake or what if the kitten's really scared of Henderson?

What then?

It was too late.

Valerie was already scooping the kitten into her arms and making a soft blanket with the hoodie she was wearing.

Come on she said walking quickly in the direction of the cottage.

Valerie stop you can't bring that kitten home you just can't.

But it was no use.

Valerie wasn't listening.

She wanted to help this kitten and she wasn't taking no for an answer.

Ella knew it was a very poor idea but she blurted out anyway.

What if I make the kitten a tiny house from my drawing?

We'll give him food and water and then we'll be on our way.

How does that sound Valerie?

Valerie stopped and turned around to Ella and said yes that will work but I want the house close to the farmers market so we can visit every time we come.

You got it said Ella.

Because Ella never left the house without markers or crayons she pulled out her zipper pouch that carried the new chalk mama had just bought her.

She began to draw a beautiful house with several large balconies,

Many rooms and a giant side opening where the kitten could sleep.

As Ella finished Valerie said oh Ella it's perfect it's a tiny mansion for this beautiful kitty.

Glad you like it said Ella now it's time to bring it to life.

And with a tap on the tip of her nose the house began to rise up off the cardboard.

As it grew it became more and more detailed and beautiful but it kept growing and growing and growing.

At this rate it would be the size of a real house in the middle of the farmers market.

The girls would be caught soon showing their magic in a public place.

What were they gonna do?

Ella Valerie shouted what do we do?

Why is it still growing?

Didn't you do your normal spell?

Yes Ella said but something isn't right and my heart's beating really fast and I don't feel like I have control.

I feel like the house will never stop growing.

What did I do?

As the house continued to grow now the size of a large shed Valerie set down the kitten and hurried over to her big sister who was crying on the ground.

She held her hands lifted her chin and said Ella you can do this but first you must breathe.

Count with me inhale two three four exhale two three four.

Good let's do that again inhale two three four exhale two three four.

Great work!

How do you feel now?

Ella opened her eyes after tightly closing them to count her breaths and now focused all her attention on the growing house.

As she tapped her nose she took easy cleansing breaths in through her nose and out through her mouth.

With each breath and sound the house began to shrink.

Soon it was so small it folded into the cardboard and was a simple chalk art drawing.

Phew Ella said looking around.

Suddenly they were both aware they were still at the farmers market and it was quite busy.

However somehow there didn't seem to be anyone watching.

I think we're safe for now but I'm never cutting it that close again.

I love kittens too but next time we'd be better off taking that cat into the farmers market and seeing if anyone would want to adopt it.

Valerie jumped up.

That's a great idea she said and I know just the person.

Valerie scooped up the kitten and ran in the direction of the strawberry farmers booth.

Hi Mr.

Brown Valerie said breathlessly.

We found this kitten and I know you have a granddaughter that loves cats.

Do you think she would like to adopt it?

Mr.

Brown walked over to Valerie and took the little kitten from her looking at it and pulling it into his chest.

Oh Miss Valerie I'm keeping this little guy for myself.

He's a cute one and my granddaughter will love having a pet when she visits.

Thank you so much ladies.

The girls were so happy they'd found a good home for the cat and that they hadn't been caught doing magic outside the house.

So do you think if I visit Mr.

Brown at the strawberry booth he will let me play with the kitten?

Valerie asked as they lay in bed.

Ella laughed.

Yes Valerie I think he'd be glad to share a little.

I sure did learn my lesson today about magic.

Mom and Daddy were right.

Things can go really crazy quick and if you have to focus and control your emotions and feelings in order to make the magic work.

I'm going to start practicing those breathing exercises mama always does so I can be better at my magic too.

Valerie yawned.

Me too.

I'm counting my breaths now to go to sleep.

Inhale two three four.

Goodnight.
