Welcome to the space in between.
Find a comfortable position.
And know that you don't need to sit in any particular way Just let your body settle wherever you are.
And however you've arrived here.
And then close your eyes or soften your gaze downward and take a full breath in through your nose.
And let it go softly We'll begin with the breath as a simple way of noticing it.
Let it flow naturally.
Breathe in.
.
.
And breathe out a couple of times at your own pace.
And now see if you can notice the moment the inhale ends.
And that tiny pause before the exhale begins.
Don't try and hold it.
Just notice that it's there.
And in with the next inhale Breathe in.
And at the top.
The time you pause.
And in art.
And at the bottom.
Another pause.
The moment between the in and the out.
The moment between the out and the in.
It lasts maybe a second.
Maybe less.
Maybe more.
But it's there.
Breathe in.
.
.
Past.
Breathe out.
Arms.
Stay here for a moment.
Simply noticing the gaps.
Most of the time,
The breath just happens.
You don't think about it.
You don't direct it.
It moves through you without your attention.
And yet it's always been here and always will,
With its pauses and its in-betweens.
And it's not just the breath.
It's how we move through a lot of life too.
Arriving.
Finishing.
Moving on.
Missing the middle.
And inhale.
And exhale.
The doing of it.
But we rarely notice what lives in between.
It's a tendency.
That most of us know.
To already be somewhere.
While we're still on the way.
And in that forward pull.
The middle gets passed through without really being felt.
We're so practiced at moving forward toward the next thing that we skip clean of the space in between.
But that space.
Gadagab.
Is not empty.
It's where you actually are.
It's the act of living.
Now bring your attention gently to your mind.
Thoughts will come.
They always do.
And you might already have a few moving through right now.
Notice how one arises.
It doesn't matter what it is.
And let it pass.
The way a sound fades and see how it just goes as you don't engage with it.
It appears.
Then it moves.
And then it fades.
And then,
There's a moment before the next one arrives.
The gap between thoughts.
That quiet.
See if you can find it.
It might feel very short at first.
Almost imperceptible.
But it's there.
Just like the pause between the breaths.
Know that you don't have to fill it.
You don't have to rush to the next thought.
To prove that your mind is working.
Just rest in it.
And maybe something in you resists this.
Maybe that quiet feels a little uncomfortable,
A little exposed.
We're not used to open space.
Maybe you've even been taught that empty means unproductive,
That pause means stuck.
That silence means something has gone wrong.
So when we find ourselves in the in-between,
Between thoughts,
Between chapters,
Between one version of ourselves and the next,
It can feel like standing in a doorway to a room,
We can't quite see it.
And that can feel a little scary,
Can't it?
I want you to know that that feeling is not a problem,
But just an unfamiliarity.
The space between is the unknown.
But the unknown is not dangerous It's simply unmarked.
And you've been in unmarked places before.
And you found your way there What if you let yourself consider just for a moment that this space between thoughts is not empty at all?
What if it's the most honest place there is?
Like a place without a story.
Without a plan.
Without an identity to maintain.
Just the awareness.
Resting in itself.
The pause between the breaths.
Is where the body remembers how to begin again.
And the space between thoughts is where you can just be Stay here for a little while longer.
Just being in the in-between noticing what it actually feels like when you stop rushing through it If thoughts come,
Let them,
Watch them rise and pass,
And then find your way back to the gap,
Because that's the practice.
Just returning to the space again and again until it starts to feel less like a void and more like home.
And as you slowly come back,
Take one more breath in through the nose.
Pause at the top.
And slowly out.
Notice the pause at the bottom too.
That tiny,
Quiet,
Complete moment.
That in-between.
And now take it with you.
Into the next conversation.
The next task.
Next transition in your day.
See if you can find even one moment where you let yourself be in the middle of something without already being at the end of it.
The magic isn't at the destination.
It's always here.
In between.
So take a last deeper inhale here.
And with the exhale,
You may blink your eyes open.
Arrive back into the space,
Maybe look around,
Remember where you are I wish you a wonderful day.
Wonderful in-betweens.
And I hope to see you back in this space soon again.
